Day 1 with Jake
Well, we brought Jake home today. The kids were so excited to be going and picking him up - and even more so when on the drive home he hoped into the back seat of the truck with them, lol.
When we got home and took him out of the truck (I was thankful that he was on a leash!), Jake discovered that we have cats - he was so desperate to go and chase them that I really had to hold onto the leash to make sure that he didn't rip it from my hands. For being a medium size dog, he sure does have a lot of power to him, lol.
Charlotte took him outside tonight to do his business and he saw another one of our cats (we have three that live around the house - although that might change with Jake now living with us, lol). She told me that he pulled her off her feet but she never let go of the leash, lol, she said she just kept pulling back until she could get up again, lol. When she finally managed to get him back in the house he ran straight to our bedroom window, and with his paws up on the window sill he can just look out the window - so he decided to jump up a bit (can you see where this is going???????). I told him "No" and started to come over to get him but he surprised me by coming to me, when I reached down to pet him he spun around and went running at the open window and jumped at the window so that he could get out to chase that cat. Now, keep in mind that there is a screen in that window and, well, lets just say that he realized that fact when he hit the screen and bounced back off of it (thankfully the screen held and he didn't bust it out of its frame), lol.
I can definitely tell that we are in for some pretty interesting days to come with Jake now being a member of the family, lol

Oh wow. It sounds like an interesting first day. lol I hope he gets over it. All three of our dogs have a tiny chunk of nose missing from our one cat that we recently had to put to sleep. He taught them early on, within the first week of them coming home who the boss was. lol When she would go to drink water, if they were near the water bowl, they would all step back and let her drink. It was funny to watch. Thanks for the visual of your daughter holding on to that leash for dear life. ;0)

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
