Exciting News
Posted in Family Life
I know, "What can be more exciting than adopting a dog?", right (come on, I know you're thinking it ... I can see it in your eyes, rofl). Well actually this is pretty exciting - I just got a phone call from the SPCA today and Jake is booked for his surgery tomorrow (in case you are wondering what surgery he is getting - he is going to be neutered). He will also be getting an ID chip in his ear in case he ever takes off and someone finds him and drops him off at the Vet's - they will know who he belongs to. So, on Wednesday in the afternoon, we should be able to go and pick him up - I will need to phone the Vet's and make sure that that is okay (I'll phone them tomorrow, who knows, maybe we will be told that he can come home tomorrow).
On the knitting front, I am just humming along on the Pink Monstrosity Cardigan, lol. I finished the shaping for the armholes last night and am now just working on knitting it so that the armhole is 9" long (from the start of the shaping decreases). After that is done then I get to do the shoulder shaping (then I think the back will be done - which will be nice because I am getting so sick of knitting in pink (and oddly enough - that shade of pink is pretty close to the color of yarn I am using).
Now before I get a barrage of comments from those of you who absolutely love pink, let me just say, I think pink is a perfectly good color ............ for someone else to knit, lololololololololol. My daughter is another one of those people that absolutely loves the color pink - she saw a pink cell phone the other day and was batting her baby blues & saying "Please Mommy, can I get it?", my reply "No", her reply "But, Mom, it's Pink!!!!!!!" (as if that explains everything, lol). To put it bluntly - if it is pink, then she pretty much wants it, doesn't matter if she will use it (pink microwave, pink vacuum, pink cell phone - these are all things that a 9 year old does not need to be acquiring right now, lol).
I have also been knitting on my 2 socks on 1 circular needle - I was stumped by the heel (I am doing a short row wrapped heel and didn't want holes on the sides when I started the second half of the heel. So, yesterday we went to a friends house and I got her to show me how she does it (thanks so much, Lori). I borrowed her instructions so that I could refer to them again when I was working on them at home and I was on my way again - now I just have to figure out what I want to do with the cuff of the socks, I think I might do some ribbing and then knit about 6 or 7 rows so that the top kind of rolls down to the ribbing. I'll be sure to post pictures of them when I am done, it's really funny - I took the ball of yarn and divided it in two (thanks again for all your help, Jill & Sarah ) and they look like I am knitting two totally separate socks, lol. Once I post the picture then you'll see what I mean.

Good job continuing to work on the wonderful pink cardigan for your MIL. I am proud of you! *grin*
Charlotte would have loved the parade in town this weekend. Everything was pink. Even the cowboys and their horses were wearing pink. The theme was "Are you MAN enough to wear pink?" in support of breast cancer. The horses were all dolled up in pink sparkly things. I totally thought of Charlotte during the whole thing and her love of all things pink.
I bet you are all super excited about Jake coming home soon. Deanna says he is really cute and can't wait to meet him. She really wants a small dog but her father has put down his foot and said no way! She is heart broken.

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
