School is over for another year
Posted in Homeschooling
We had our last facilitator meeting today which means we are officially on summer holidays now. It was kind of a sad day for us as well because this is the last time we will meet with Chris (our facilitator), she is retiring this year and we will have a new facilitator for our next school year.
The kids are very excited to be done school - we will be starting back up the second week in August (like we did last year) which will actually be kind of nice since Don and Josh will be back from the Canadian Jamboree (with the Scouts) and Charlotte will be back from her almost week at the Presbyterian camp that the kids have attended numerous times. It will be really weird, though, being by myself for almost a week ... not sure what I will do with myself, lol.
I guess now that we are done school for this school year, the next step is to beginning planning (more in detail) what we will be covering for our next school year. We decided to stick with the Saxon math since we have had so much success with it this year. For our language curriculum, we decided to get the kids back to the basics of learning Grammar (you know the whole parts of speech, punctuation, etc.). I showed the book, that I plan on using with the kids, to Chris and she thought that it was a wonderful idea - even though the book is an older one, I don't think it will really affect the learning because does grammar really change that much???????? I don't really have much else really concretely settled for the rest of our curriculum (I do want the kids to do a study on Canada this year and they will be doing Science with Don on Saturdays again), but I guess I have a couple of months to get it all straightened out in my head, right?, lol.

Hi Becky, It sounds like you facilitator visit went very well. YAY, you can now enjoy summer vacation! My kids finished their tests yesterday and I am mailing them away today for marking. Then we have our facilitator visit on June 12. So we are on summer break I guess too. The kids are out with Wes right now rock picking.
Your blog looks great. I don't know know what you did but it all fits on the screen now, much easier to read and enjoy.
See you Sunday.

It was so funny, last night I told the kids not to set their alarms .... Charlotte got this excited look on her face and shouted "Finally!!!!!!!!!", lol.
I am glad that you can now read my blog all on one screen without having to scroll over (that had to have been so annoying!!!!!!). I was over at Lori's yesterday and we did some brainstorming about what could be causing it (actually saw how it showed up on a PC), when I got home I tried what we had talked about and thankfully it worked.

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
