It's winter, again??????????

Posted in Pictures

The radio's told us it was coming, but with how often they mis-forecast the weather, I kind of figured that they would be wrong.  Nope, this time they were right on the money and we woke up to a yard full of snow!!!!!!!!  It really messed up the whole day, the cats didn't like it, the power kept flickering on and off and the real kicker in the whole thing ........ I had no internet!!!!!!  (the snow either covered the receiver on the dish or it bent the trees down and blocked its 'beam' to the main tower).

It amazes me how dependent we have become on our computers, I don't use my phone during the day because I have a cell phone, and I get charged for daytime minutes that are used on it, so as a result I keep in touch with my friends from my computer because I have unlimited use of the internet from it (that's my story and I'm sticking to it, lol).  Don't get me wrong, computers are a wonderful invention - they allow us to do research on them for school (otherwise I would be driving into town all the time .... not my idea of a fun time), they also allow me to send pictures of the kids to my Mom who lives an hour away (I know, I could just drive down there and show them to her but then I would have to get them printed out and this way she has them pretty much instantly .... I like that feature, lol).

Televisions are another one that can suck us in if we are not careful .... we have a few shows that we really like to watch, but if we miss them it isn't the end of the world ..... I also like to think that "I could stop if I wanted to", we actually did stop watching television for about 2 + years - we would still watch the occasional video and for us this was a better choice because we didn't just sit and channel surf when the program on T.V. was over, when the movie was done we would turn off the T.V. and go on to something else (like spending time with our kids) ..... I like being able to go up to my T.V. and push the power button to turn it off if the show I want to watch is not on yet.

Wouldn't it be great if we were all as dependent on our Bibles as we are on our T.V.'s and computers, that would truly be a wonderful thing.

Oh, I wanted to show you a few pictures of our snow that we had today:

this one is from our front door looking out over out front yard (I didn't want to go out wandering to get some pictures .... it was cold out, lol)

here is a picture of where we park (again, from the front door, lol).  There is a whole bunch more snow on the car now.

Last picture is of Mystery, he is not to happy about having to be crossing the snow covered ground - he even gave me the most disgusted look when he got up onto the front deck area, lol.

Hope you all have a wonderfully warm rest of your day .... I am off to make myself a Cappuccino and maybe get some knitting done.

That is pretty much what it looked like last week here in NB. Hope it will disappear soon and you will get Spring. :o)

I agree with you on the TV. :o)

Thursday, May 24, 2007 - Snow

Posted by Anonymous

We got the same snow and had NO POWER all day. It was actually wonderful!! I got a book finished (we all read lots), knitted lots, felted a bag, (I was a little worried about what I would make for dinner but the power came back on in time). The best part was no electronics it's amazing the "noise" reduction when everything is off. We also had no tv for many years and we've always had our tv in a seperate and not a very comfortable room just so we wouldn't become couch potatoes (hopefully when renovations are done upstairs we can get back to that scenario). I did "miss" my email/blog friends but it was a nice day to shut it all out....Lori D.

Iced Coffee Syrup

≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar

***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!

* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.

* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
