Easter 'Treasure' Hunt

Posted in Family Life

On Saturday, while I was at work, Don took a bunch of pictures of things around the house .... the cookie jar, the knob on the washing machine, etc. and made a treasure hunt for the kids to find their easter bags.  After they had gone to bed and he was sure everyone else was sleeping (I went to bed as well, it had been a very busy day at work and I was really tired, he put the picture clues around the house for the kids to find.

A little bit of history here on what we did in the past for the kids treats ... for the past few years we had been taking those little tin foil covered solid chocolate eggs and hide some around the kitchen and living room as well as scatter some over the living room floor.  On Sunday, the kids came running out to the living room, expecting to see eggs on the floor .... they were just about to come and ask us about the lack of chocolate eggs when Charlotte noticed a piece of paper on the kitchen table, she quickly called Josh over and they were literally 'off and running' to find the clues, lol.

Both the kids loved the way we did it this year and have been asking Don if they can do it again next year ... only make it a little harder and give them separate clues to their easter bags.

Around noon we went down to my Mom's (it is her first holiday alone since Dad passed away), we ended up having such a wonderful time playing games and joking with each other ... my oldest brother (who lives way up north) surprised us all when he and his oldest son walked through the back door.  In the morning at Mom's, my sister along with her husband and two kids (both are teens), colored eggs and then in the afternoon, my niece and nephew hid the eggs in the back yard for Josh and Charlotte to find ... they all had a great time and thankfully the weather cooperated so that the kids could do this..

Iced Coffee Syrup

≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar

***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!

* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.

* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
