Scout Banquet
Posted in Daily Musings
Last night we took the kids to the annual Scout Banquet. It is an evening of recognition for the leaders and a time to thank all those who have supported the Cubs and Scouts in our town. So that the burden of providing all the food isn't on a few people, they have it so that it is a potluck ... there is also entertainment after the meal. This year we had the privilige of watching a group of Native Dancers, they were wonderful and the dances that they performed were: The Jingle Dance (2 women did this dance and the Jingles that were on their dresses were from the lids of aluminum cans that have been rolled into a cone then tied with ribbons onto the dress - adult Jingle Dresses have 360 Jingles on them!). The Fancy Dance (2 teenage girls did this dance and it is a dance of endurance ... the faster the music goes, the faster that they dance). The Grass Dance (one of the stories behind this dance is that the men would go and perform this dance, stomping down the grass so that the hunters could hunt the animals in the area that had been flattened down - it was a way for them to bless the site of the hunt before the hunt happened). In total there was 6 dances performed (I can't remember the names of the other 3 dances that they did). After they did their performances they got all the people to join them in a big circle, join hands and dance in a circle - it was quite funny to see the rythym that some people had (I was in the group that could only occassionally keep in time to the beating drum, lol - Don and the kids did much better than I did, lol).
I am hoping that a friend of mine will send me a picture that she took of the dancers posing with the Beavers, Cubs & Scouts. If I get it, I'll post it so that you can see it. Their costumes that they were wearing were amazing and they would take them anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months to make (this would not be continuously working on it, instead it would be; work on it a while and then putting it aside for a while). The beadwork on the male dancers costume took a friend of his 6 months to do!
Well, off to get the grocery list done as we are going grocery shopping tonight. Hope you all have a wonderful evening.

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
