Without kids

Posted in Pictures

Today is day 1 without the kids - it is sooooo quiet in the house right now.  When you have your kids with you 24/7 you get used to there being noise in the house ... when the kids are away, it is almost creepy quiet.  It's even bugging the dog that the kids aren't here.

Yesterday we dropped the kids off at Camp - they have been going to this particular camp since I was a cook there in 2001 so this is kind of like a second home to them.  It's actually kind of funny how comfortable they are out there - they have us stay long enough to help them get their beds made (they choose top bunks all the time so they are the ones climbing up and making them - we just hand up the stuff they ask for, lol).  After their beds are done it is almost like they are pushing us out "Thanks for helping us with our beds, see you later ...... are you  still here??????".  Actually it isn't really like that, but it's pretty close, lol.

This year I did manage to get some pictures before they saw us off, lol:

Here is Josh up on his bed.  Every year at the end of a camp they have the kids decorate boards to hang up on the ceiling and the walls in the cabins, they put the kids first names and the year that they were there.  It really is amazing to check out these boards in the cabins, some of them are pretty old and the kids get pretty creative with how they decorate them.

Here he is standing outside his cabin - not sure how many boys will be staying in this cabin with him, I think there is room for 6 more boys in this cabin.  After I took this picture he waved at me and said "See you later, Mom", I did get a hug before I left though, lol.

Here is Charlotte up on her bed - the blue board that is on the wall to the left of her head is one that she helped decorate back in 2005, there was only 4 girls in the cabin during that camp.

Here she is outside her cabin, there will be 7 girls staying in this cabin - each cabin also has one counsellor staying in the cabin with the kids.  At the end of every camping season they have a dinner and silent auction at the camp, people bid on the cabins (as well as other items there) to be able to name them for the year - some of them keep the same names for a very long time, this one is called Emerald Isles (not sure how long it has had this name)

Iced Coffee Syrup

≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar

***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!

* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.

* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
