Big Creek Maple Farm | 1 entries, 3 comments | | Welcome! We're the Hall Family and we're proud to own the 186 beautiful acres of rippling water, rocky woodland, and sugar maple trees we call Big Creek Maple Farm. We're located in upstate New York in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, about 40 miles from the Canada border. We currently tap about 1,200 maple trees to make pure, all natural maple syrup. About 300 hundred of these trees are tapped using the old-fashioned spout and bucket method. When they are full, the sap from each of these buckets is gathered by our family and dumped into a "sap wagon". This is pulled along the snowy paths by tractor until all the buckets have been emptied into it. The remainder of the trees are hooked to plastic tubing which carries the sap from the trees directly to the sugarhouse, where all the sap is then boiled into maple syrup. We've found that making maple syrup is a wonderful way to enjoy God's creation and teach our children the rewards of good, hard work at the same time. We hope you'll enjoy the thoughts and pictures we've shared here.
