We had a very nice Father's Day weekend. On Saturday a friend and I took our 13 yr dd clothes shopping at the malls and had a lot of fun. I found some great deals at Kohl's and enjoyed that store the most. Then Saturday night we went to a friend's college graduation party at her parents home. Well I've known her mom and little brother for about 15-16 years now. Her little brother Alan races his dirt bike doing motorcross (which we absolutely love watching). So he was to be racing on Sunday so we decided to go and watch him. He had four races (we missed the first one) but got to see the last three. He spent the day talking to us and giving our 13 yr dd who LOVES her dirt bike tips on how to do the whoops and jumps. He was telling us how he has never had any broken bones nor major accidents! Well in this sport its not an IF it's a WHEN. When I first met him he was three years old and came into the surgeon's office where I worked to have a hernia repair. He suffers from Rickett's and has the bowedest legs I've ever seen and he is a very short guy even as a toddler he was very small for his age. I always thought he was adorable! Well just before his last race we went and talked to him while he was standing in line and he said he was getting tired and looking forward to this race being done. He was ready to go home. His mom and dad weren't there on Sunday as they just sold their home and were packing up. So he got called up to the starting gate and we went to sit and watch. On his second or third trip around he didn't show up where he was suppose to (he was in third place) many riders passed by us without Alan. So the mom in me started to get worried so we walked down around the corner and saw him. He had aparently had a small crash and was back up on his bike ready to take off. So we went back to our seats to watch. He tried hard to catch up and made the lap again, this time as he was coming around in front of us he had messed up on the whoops gave his bike more gas trying to correct the error and on the last whoop came down wrong and crashed BIG. Oh my heart jumped in my throat, I knew he was going to crash based on the way he was swerving and I was up and running towards the fence screaming "Oh God, Oh God". My husband came running behind me telling me it was alright, but as I kept watching he lay there limp across the track. My husband was holding our 4 yr ds nerf gun and jumped the fence frantically waving the nerf gun to the other riders trying to get them to slow down. One rider rode over Alan's legs as he laid there unconscience the rider was going to fast to swerve so there was not a lot he could do anyway. Quickly the First Aid guys showed up checked for a pulse and then tried to get him to come to. He was unconscience for four long minutes. Because of this he was air lifted by helicopter to the nearest Trauma Hospital 20 miles away. He didn't have any brain injuries and had only torn some muscles and ligaments in his shoulder. They kept him overnight for observation. We did call and talk to him that night at the hospital and he sounded just fine. Such a scary thing for this mom the motorx is really a thrill to watch but also very scary. Our 13 yr dd was very upset to have seen it happen and I was so hoping that she would have some respect for the dirt bikes and ride a little more with caution but by Monday afternoon was riding like she had stolen the thing { Last Page } { Page 16 of 20 } { Next Page } |
