I'm a FARM GIRL at Heart

Posted in Simple Living

Over at Garden Goose, you can enjoy the Farm Girl Blog-A-Thon.
Are you a Farm Girl or Farm Girl at heart?     YES

Do you love having that little flock of back yard chickens (even in the city?/or dream of having chickens in your yard one day?)     In approximately 18 months I will have my farm and my chickens!

Do you love growing your own food items?  Yes, we have garden this year and it is growing wonderfully.

Love being thrifty and frugal?  I wouldn't have it any other way - I have such a sense of accomplishment when I can save my husband and our family money

Love wearing an apron, or simply collecting them?  I have one apron and I definitely want more

Love a "dirty manicure" from planting seeds in the soil?  What is a manicure anyway - the polish seems to fall off immediately after applying with all of the cleaning and washing hands that we do around here
Do you love bringing the simpler ways of living into your life and home?  Yes, my girls and I have learned quite a bit this last year with making our own laundry detergent, household cleaners and tinctures
Love cooking good old home style meals?  Processed foods cost so much more, I'm not sure why anyone would spend the money??
Love canning your own foods?  We canned Georgia peaches last year and every year in the fall we can our pumpkins after Halloween.  Next year, I'm hoping my garden will be bigger to do some more canning.
Or dream about one day actually having a bit of land to stretch out on?  As I said before, in 18 months, I hope to have land and a beautiful house to call my own after my husband retires from the service.

Then you are a Farm Girl!..(or Farm Girl at heart!)  Yeah

http://www.halloweenscene.com/c-hats.htm   This week she wanted us to share a photo of something recently we have created.  Well, I made prairie bonnets for our two neighbor girls after my daughter began playing a "prairie game" with them each afternoon at our play date at the park.  I just completed a smaller bonnet for their 2 year old sister, Sarah Beth, so she wouldn't feel left out.  I didn't take a picture of it, but it looked like the picture above and  was in a cute Strawberry Shortcake fabric for the bonnet and plain pink fabric for the ruffle.  I've also been completing some quilting blocks.  You can see them here and here and here.  I'm hoping to finish enough blocks by the end of the year to create a new quilt for our bed.
