Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14

Homemade Baby Food

Homemade baby food is the most nutritious and the cheapest way to feed your baby, next to breastfeeding.

Some reasons to make your own baby food are:

1)     Extra benefit - You save money when you make homemade baby food! Not only in the cost of the actual homemade baby food, but in the nutrient ratio as well.

2)      Making your baby's food homemade gives you total control over what is put into your baby’s food; you know it's free of additives that a tiny tummy simply does not need!

3)     You take the extra care to make sure the best ingredients are used.  Does the commercial baby food manufacturers claim the same care?

4)    Healthy eating habits are established at a young age.

We began making our own baby food purely out of monetary necessity.  I wish we could say we were young and poor, but really we were just POOR - what more can I say.  Plus, my girls NEVER liked the jars of baby food - really, I tried!

I always start with sweet potatoes.  My Little Bear doesn't like these at all - the gag reflex is a bad sign!  So, I went onto green beans.  She loves these!

Don't be intimidated or led to believe that creating your own baby food takes extra time or extra effort.  It really doesn't.  For instance, tonight we had green beans with dinner and with the leftovers I simply pureed them and put them in the freezer in my individual ice cube trays.  In the morning I will pop them out and put them in a tupperware in the freezer.

When I want to serve them, all I do is take a couple out, put them in a bowl, and let them defrost until I need to serve them to Little Bear.  If they are still cold, I can always microwave them.  WORD OF CAUTION - a microwave REALLY heats up the contents quickly, so be sure to finger test the heat of the food before you feed it to your little one.

Enjoy this wonderful time with your little one, feeding them wholesome, nutritious meals; hopefully ensuring a lifetime of healthy eating habits!

Blessings,

Michelle
