Quilting Block of the Month
Posted in Quilts
|
I began quilting in conjunction with a Quilter's BOM (block of the month) from Little House in the Valley but now I can't seem to locate her blog - anyone have any ideas what happened?
Since I don't enjoy unfinished projects lying around, I will continue on with the BOM. I found my next block at One Patch and I will be demonstrating how to make Block #8.
Here are my fabric choices:

Here are the cutting requirements for one block:
Light for star points - 4 squares @ 4”
Dark for star points - 4 squares @ 4”
Background - 4 squares @ 3 1/2 " and 4 squares @ 4"

The next step is to draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 4 -4" background squares and 2 of the 4" dark star point squares.

Next match two of the 4” background squares with two of the unmarked dark star point 4” squares with right sides together. Match the remaining two background squares with two of the light star point 4” squares in the same manner. Match the remaining two marked dark star point and light star point squares in the same manner. Sew a scant ¼” seam on either side of the diagonal lines.
Cut apart on the line and press towards the darker fabric.

Using a square ruler, square up the half square triangles to 3 ½”. You will have 4 squares each containing Background/Dark Star Point, Background/Light Star Point, Dark Star Point/Light Star Point.
Lay them out to look like this:

Sew the horizontal rows together pressing row 1 and 3 to the right and 2 and 4 to the left. Sew the rows together. Press to one side.

Be sure to leave me a link to your completed BOM. I would love to see everyone's creations!

Her User name is homesteadmama4 - but I went on to look at her blog and it is not listed. I sent her a message to see how she was doing. You may want to do the same!

Wow!
That looks great! I'm in the process of binding up my first quilt. If I can I'll try to post a picture of it.
If it's okay with you, I added you to my list of friends.
God Bless,
Annie

I was on little house's quilt BOM and I too was disappointed when I couldn't find her any more. I'm so glad someone as taken up the slack. I had thought of doing it but hadn't made no finally decision on it. I even found a few on line that my daughter and I could work on. I'm excited to get started on your block you posted. I'll post to you when I get the block finished. Here are my old posted BOM squares.

I love your square! It's pretty! I might save it to do next month. Leanne from AtTheGoodLife is doing a block of the month tutorial as well (she was doing homesteadmama's too), so I'm doing her nine patch this month - I'll do yours next month.... maybe we could all do one a month to share around - won't it be fun showing off our quilts at the end of the year.
This square is 12 inches right? (I'm hopeless with math).
I'm enjoying your music again.... :o)
