Our Garden
Posted in Family Life
|

We were blessed with a beautiful day to complete our small but wonderful garden. Since I am not a "green thumb" by trade, we are starting rather meagerly. Last year during the Little Woman's girl's group we studied Mel Bartholomew's book called, "All New Square Foot Gardening."
His premise is to build as many 4 x 4 boxes with a grid structure on top to yield
16 individual 1 ft sections. Within each of those sections he gives the amount of seeds that you can plant of each crop you desire. We planted carrots, lettuce, spinach, brocolli, tomatoes, cabbage, peppers, and strawberries. We also planted snap peas, but in a hanging bucket.
The girls had a great time sifting and mixing the dirt in the box and then they helped me plant the seeds. I can't wait until we can begin harvesting our bounty. They learned a valuable skill today, one especially beneficial in this down turning economy. With the cost of groceries going up, growing vegetables will help us save money.

Your garden looks so good. You should see mine, it is just dirt waiting for me to get out there. I love to garden no matter what size it is. Enjoy your garden and the blessing that comes from it. God Bless, mj
