QUIET- According to Webster it means enjoyed in peace and relaxation. In our house that peacefulness can occur after all the kids are in bed, when we are all snuggled up enjoying a good movie with popcorn, when I nurse the baby to sleep, when I find a moment to immerse myself in the Word and many other examples. So, what exactly is peace and what does it look like in our homes and lives?
Psalm 34:14 Depart from evil and do good; seek, inquire for, and crave peace and pursue (go after) it! I once had someone tell me that when they entered our home they felt peace and right at home. That alone was the best compliment I've ever received. I believe peace stems from contentment. According to an unknown author, "Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart." If someone is not calm in their heart, I'm just not sure how they could handle the day to day things. Even during the most chaotic day in my house, I have peace from God. Psalm 29:11 The LORD will give strength unto His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace. So often, I'm asked, "How do you do it? How do you homeschool 5 girls, and still have time to scrapbook, quilt, sew clothes for the girls, read, etc.?" What they are really asking is "how do I do all this and still remain sane?" Or better yet, "how do I do all these things and still remain at peace." I would love to say that I am superwoman and can accomplish all these things on my own, but that would be a terrible lie. Without this verse I am lost: Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Only by the grace of God can I accomplish these things. God grants me the ability to do these things because He knows they give me pleasure. I certainly don't accomplish them every single day. Some days I'm lucky just to get the schooling done, but everyone has the same 24 hours - it's all in how you use those hours. No, I don't get to scrapbook, quilt and sew as much as I'd like to, but in all things there is a place and a time for everything: Ecclesiastes 3 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: Relax - enjoy the quiet peace that God gives and know that you'll get everything accomplished on His time.
