What a Night

Posted in Family Life

All was well last night.  We came home from church and I and my 17YRO DD unloaded several sleepy children.  She was the last one in, so I shut and locked the front door; not imaging that any detail had been forgotten.  We all went to bed for what I thought to be a peaceful, restful night.  The two little ones have very croupy coughs, so I was praying that they would sleep soundly.

To my surprise, around midnight, I hear pounding on our door and our dog is barking excitedly.  I turn off the alarm, open up the front door and the local neighborhood watch police officer is shining a very bright flash light in my face, asking if I knew that the side passenger door to my car was wide open.  A neighbor had called it in for us.  Apparently, in my 17 YRO DD's haste, she forgot to shut her door when she came in earlier that evening.  Luckily, nothing was taken from car and I shut the door and locked the car.  I thanked the officer profusely for notifying us, but all the while feeling very foolish for not following up to make sure the car was secure when we came home.  I miss my husband at times like these because he's my right hand man who is ALWAYS on top of these things.  Thank goodness, the dog did not wake up any of the other girls with his excited barking.

I proceeded to bed, only have the baby wake up at 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. for her feedings.  So, please drink a cup of caffeinated something for me this morning (since I'm nursing - I can't enjoy caffeine ) and know that I'm thinking about all of the sleep deprived momma's in this world today.
