Mex Mex Movie Night-
We love Fridays around here!! Actually, Thursday is our Friday. My hubby works 4 ten hour days, so Thursday is his Friday. Anyway, now its really Friday- just another excuse to get cozy with the family and have a carpet picnic, which has always been one of our favorite family events. Actually, I think we have been doing this for about 16 years- ever since our daughter was a baby. Only then, it was just Mike and I- and it was our "date" after putting the little (screaming) princess to bed!
We get blankets, a good clean movie, and some good food- usually something special, and have it all out in the living room like a big picnic. Tonight, we will either watch "Eight Below" or another "clean" moving I found on ChristianBook.com that lots of people raved about. I actually order it from netflix though, I hate to buy a movie, not really knowing if it is a keeper or not.
Anyway- my sissy is down. Its bad enough when a single mom is just making ends meet- then- some nit wit mis uses her debit card number and sifts money out of her account- just when the mortgage is due! Seems so amazing to me- that a company or a bank can get immediate funds from us- but when they have to return it- IT TAKES FOREVER!!! Things are so BACKWARDS!
Hopefully- a nice carpet picnic and some mexican food will cheer her up! I know God is watching out for her, and I know this will all come right in the end. In the mean time- we are just trying to cast this big fat care on Him- because we know HE cares about it- and will take care of it!
HAPPY FRIDAY ALL!!

***Our Small Garden***

What your seeing is a Lasagne Garden made with Newspapers over grass, then petemoss, directly topped with manuere and soil, THEN repeated again with petemoss, manure and soil until I got the desired height.
Sweet 100's are producing 100's of little tomatoes now while our peppers are coming along nicely. Cuces are growing up the vine like mad ...but the ONE issue we're having. See the bald spot in the center of the garden?...that's SUPPOSED to be all my different kinds of lettuce. WELL, Edward, the cute but pesky woodchuck (groundhog) has eaten them to stubs. I have NO LETTUCE.
SO, I'm trying to figure out how to deal with this critter. He's SMART. We put a plastic bag over them one night and Edward (the woodchuck) pulled it off. I can't believe I've named him, I'm not close to him now that he's wripped my dream of making a FULL SALAD directly from my garden. Now I have to depend on the local farmers market, which isn't so bad because we're supporting them, but I wanted the good feeling of having grown my own lettuce.
So I'm trying to figure out what to do for next years gardening season. Nip this situation in the bud.
The Bed That Tim Built

Good Morning World! I had a wonderful night of sleep in my new bed! Here it is! Dh installed it last night:

He and a friend pulled all of the wood from the woods around here and built it from scratch. His friend had built beds like this before, and so taught dh how to do it. If you remember seeing dd10's bed, the railings in our loft and the railings on our front deck and steps, dh's friend also made these. Cool, eh?
I hope you enjoyed this show and tell. You can click on the image above if you'd like to see more similar show and tells.

Need your prayers!!!
Last night I learned that someone used my bank card number to make an online purchase. Whether this was an error in their typing or intentional, I do not know. I've already spoken to the Bank and to the Company that the purchase was made from. Please pray that this gets resolved QUICKLY or I won't be able to pay the bills that are due next week.

Only This Manna
But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
Numbers 11:6
Israel had been on her journey through the desert for over two years. Because of her murmuring in the wilderness, God had faithfully sent Israel bread from heaven each morning, except on the Sabbath. There was always enough, and the manna was nutritionally complete.
But then God’s people fell into lust. They remembered the fish they had back in Egypt, as well as the melons, leeks, onions, and garlic. Now they had nothing at all but this manna.
The Christian church has traveled through the wilderness of this world for many years now. Since her miraculous birth at Pentecost, God has faithfully supplied her every need and fully equipped her with the armor of God. Through His Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, He has supplied clear directions to the promised land.
But God’s people still fall to lusting after the pleasures and fashions of this world and become dissatisfied with the heavenly manna He provides.
The Christian pilgrim, too, begins his pilgrimage with the ardent joy of seeing “old Pharaoh” drowned, his host overthrown, and Egypt left behind. Feasting on a boundless supply of manna, he feels as though he has already had a taste of heaven! But all too soon, the heat of the desert sun, the cares of this life, the deceitfulness of riches, and
the lust of other things unite to dry away our souls. We are no longer content with this manna alone. But as we raise the eye of faith to the things not seen and give God
the throne room of our hearts, we find that nothing in this world satisfies, and nothing is more fulfilling than the sweet manna that God still provides today!

STOP THAT THIEF!
Soooo….I quietly go about making the family bread…but started noticing that each time I was making it, the regular crowd would stream in through the kitchen for a slab, fresh out of the oven with some butter…but SOMEONE was tearing these big chunks out of the loaves!

This couldn’t be my precious children doing this! *gasp!* nah….I thought this was a husband move for sure….alas, I caught the little thief, red handed!!

I was close, not my husband, but his son! Okay, my son…..but I couldn’t believe it! My husband says to take it as a compliment, he loves your homemade bread….just to prove he loves it….he did it again the next time I made bread, he knocked over the 25# bag of spuds I had there as a deterent, and used them as a step!

He’s so darned cute, it’s hard to get mad….lol! Guess if I want prefect loaves I’d best find a new place to cool them……up much higher!
Nah….I’ll just leave ‘em low….gives a good feeling that even the 1.5yo appreciates Mamas homemade bread, even if he is running thru the kitchen grabbing hunks and running away….giggling all the way
Homemade Bread anyone?

Today's Sewing Projects
Today, I finally got to do some sewing again. I made a new baby ring sling for carrying Micah in. I had some moss green linen fabric that I had originally bought to make a dress with. The fabric was a perfect weight of linen to make the baby sling from as it is strong enough to hold Micah securely, yet light weight enough to not be too warm in the summer. The sling instructions came from Sweet Things Baby Slings website. Leah, the owner, used to make and sell baby slings as a home business but as of May, 2008, she has closed her business and began offering her sling instructions on the webpage for free. She has instructions for making and using both the ring sling and the pouch type. The ring sling took very little time for me to make. I serged all the edges before hemming them. Leah's instructions were very easy to follow and I now have a new sling for Micah that I can't wait to try out tomorrow.
Another sewing project was making a stack of new diaper soakers. A while ago, I had been given an interesting diaper soaker. Made of a doubled layer of terry cloth, the soaker was shaped like a cloth diaper buyt without elastic or closures. The soaker had an additional rectangular piece or doubled terry cloth with rounded corners that was sewn down the center of the soaker to give additional absorbancy. I love this soaker over any other type I have used. I wrap it onto Micah, then wrap a diaper cover over top. At night, I can use it inside of another diaper to give extra absorbancy as a night diaper. Using the serger, I was able to sew up a stack of these soakers in very little time. The one change that I made to the soaker was the way the extra layer was sewn in. On the original one that I was given, the extra soaker layer was stitched down the middle with a single line of stitching that went down the length from one short end to the other. When I dry this soaker in the dryer, it takes more than one full cycle to dry it thoroughly. To solve that problem of drying time, I instead stitch the extra soaker across the short end at the back of the diaper only. This makes a "flap" that will allow the soaker to dry faster, whether it be in the dryer or hung out on the clothesline.
Tomorrow, I hope to get some more sewing finished. It seems that the list of clothing and other sewing projects never ends when you sew for your family. I love it!
