Hair Repels Hares, I hope!

We have had wild cottontail rabbits in our neighborhood for a few years now and they have always seemed cute. However, we saw one by our new garden recently and I noticed that three string bean plants have had their tops chewed off. My neighbor told me that human hair sprinkled in a garden helps to repel rabbits. I'm not scheduled for a hair cut for a couple of weeks and my bangs don't even need a trim yet, so I'm trying dog hair.

Bubba, our mostly Golden Retriever was only too happy to donate some of his very heavy winter coat for the cause. So now I have several tufts of his fur weighed down by rocks in the garden. Hopefully the bunnies will get the message and stay away till we can move the fence to enclose the garden area.

Today was Conrad's annual Whoop Up Trail Day. We went to the parade in the morning. Jonathan was excited to pick up candy tossed from vehicles and floats. We don't keep candy in the house otherwise, so he really felt like he hit the jackpot. David has taken him to see some mud races in the country with a friend and his son, so I'm sure they will have a great time.

As for me, I will enjoy a quiet afternoon as I scrape and sand, prime and repaint peeling trim on our house. It is a cool day, so the weather is ideal for such a project.

     Have a great weekend!

Monday's Update - The birds are stealing the dog hair for their nests!  I will have to comb the dog and add more fur till I get my own hair trimmed next Wednesday.

I've seen a rabbit in our yard & our cat almost caught a baby rabbit & something has been eating the peas, so maybe I could try some hair in the garden too. I'd like to get some of Luke's hair. He probably wouldn't miss it - it is quite shaggy. jill

Hmmmm...

Hmm, I've never heard of such a thing, but it's sure worth a try. However, the only rabbits we've ever had trouble with were the pet rabbits that kept getting out of their cages and came on over to munch on our garden buffet. We returned them twice, but sort of suggested that we couldn't be responsible for whatever happened to them if they kept coming over (Do not ask me how rabbits in off the ground rabbit cages escape. It's a mystery to me). One came over again, but this one never went home. I shall leave it at that....

I remember watching the movie The Rookie a few years ago, and they were putting human hair on the baseball field to keep the deer from eating. I thought that was pretty funny and maybe just a Hollywood made-up thing. Then again, maybe it's true. In the movie, the hair kept the deer away.

Have a great day.

Blessings,
Patti

Montana Flour

Okay, this doesn't have anything to do with your current post, but when I was reading I found a source for MT flour and wheat and other grains, it's www.montanaflour.com and they are in Fort Benton. I have not purchased from them yet, but I am considering ordering some wheat berries to grind for flour to try it since it is supposed to be superior for bread.

Thanks

Thanks for the encouragement to get back to blogging. As of today, I am back. I am looking forward to sharing things that the Lord has put on my heart about motherhood and home life. He is always teaching me things in those areas!!

Blessings,
Patti
