Party Time
.....is done for now at our house.
We had a wonderful graduation party for Maria on Sunday. There were 48 graduates in her class at Conrad High School. I mentioned in an earlier post that it is a fun tradition in our town for people "party hop" in order to greet the graduates they know well and have a chance to visit with a variety of people.
We had a nice spread available for our guests. We had corn pudding and beans in Dutch ovens, homemade whole wheat crescent rolls, salads and cupcakes for dessert. We had lots of drinks available and since the weather was cool and rainy, coffee was more popular than iced tea.
The rain wasn't a problem since we have a covered porch. We were all quite cozy and grateful for the rain.
We did have some excitement early in the festivities. David's mom, aunt, and uncle all sat together on one side of a picnic table. Several people saw the table slowly tip backwards, dumping the occupants and their plates on the deck. We are glad to say everyone is fine. We cleaned up, they loaded up new plates and the party went on.
Maria's plan is to attend Montana Bible College in Bozeman next year for a one-year certificate. She is thinking of going to Montana State University in Bozeman the following year to pursue an English degree. Fortunately MSU has a very strong Campus Crusades for Christ group.
We encourage her to find a field that would easily fit with a husband's training and English seems to be quite versatile. It would open many doors if she is drawn to any type of missionary work.
But, of course, all of our ears and eyes will be open to the Lord's direction. He may have a totally different plan for her!
Currently our focus is to stock up on supplies she will need for her kitchen at school. (baking soda, baking powder, etc.)
Our plan is to have our landline turned off sometime this summer so we can afford to have cell phones while she is in school. People have told me that cell phones make the "empty nest" much less difficult since communication becomes easier.
When that occurs I will continue to blog from our local public library. I am just a few days from a one year anniversary of blogging at Homestead Blogger. I wanted to be sure to let you know it has been a very positive experience and I am grateful for the friendships I have made!

I'm glad Maria's party went well. I hope you got to enjoy it too. I hope you get to go to the library frequently because I will miss your blogging! :o) Do you share recipes? I would love to know how you make whole wheat crescent rolls! I am switching over to whole grains. A friend recommended Laurel's Kitchen Bread book and I got that and was reading things and it said wheat from Montana was idea for making homemade wheat bread! Apparently the hard wheat grown there has the right balance of protein/nutrients to make a decent whole wheat bread that isn't a brick! LOL I am also exploring the possibility of grinding my own flour as I need it.
