John's Story
As I was upstairs folding some laundry, I thought of a story about a local man I want to share with you.
Several years ago David managed a local farm supply cooperative in our town. He hired a man named John, who had moved here from Portland with his girlfriend.
John was easy to like. He was personable and a "Johnny on the spot" type of worker. We attended his wedding when he and his girlfriend, Donya, decided to marry.
Both David and John got different jobs in time and we hadn't seen John and Donya for quite some time. I can remember making a blanket for them when they had a baby girl.
One day David told me that John had been arrested the previous night. He had taken some kind of drug and totally freaked out. He had to be subdued by the police in his and Donya's apartment and taken to our local jail.
David and our pastor were able to see him once, but they usually deferred to Donya, not wanting to take away any of her visiting time while he was jailed.
Another pastor was able to visit with John and convince him that he wasn't worthless, that he was very much loved by God. After John went through some drug and alcohol rehab, he and Donya and the baby began to attend that pastor's church and to grow in their Christian walks.
We see John often now. He is an accomplished drummer and he drums at our church as well as his own. I never grow tired of seeing the light in his eyes and the spring in his step, that comes from being a child of the King.
He and Donya recently welcomed their third baby daughter. Praise God!!
