Tomato Worms!Well, the rain came and stopped and we just got in from picking green beans in the garden. Went over to look at the tomato's and what did we find, little "monarch" looking worms! Hahahaha after our friend Jennifer laughed at the youngest when we asked her if they were such...We found out otherwise! So we went looking, found more. got them off the plants, we hope and will pray for relief, and now we'll do a search for all natural ways to cure this pesk. Does anyone have any suggestions? We tried some BORAX on them, in hopes that will deter the little pesky worms from eating anymore. Seems like I read somewhere BORAX was an alternative to harsh chemicals. I recalled our original prayers to God for our garden didn't include prayers for no bugs or other pests. We prayed for bountiful blessings and hands and feet that were willing and able to work. He has provided all we asked for. So now I'm asking for no bugs or worms, or anything else that is a harmful creature to the fruit and veggies. He is faithful! He will provide! Melissa
Purple Hull Pea'sFor those of you down in the south, you can grow purple hull peas in the north too! (oooops, shhhhhhhhhh, maybe I should have not said that....LOL) I'm so excited my plants are producing. After what was down right scary and uncertain , those peas have popped out of the slump they were in and they are producing. I'm not too sure how plentiful they will be, but any PHP will be a good PHP! For those of you that don't know what a Purple Hull Pea is, it's also called a Louisiana Field Pea, and they are in the field pea family. Black Eyed Peas are their relation, but these are so much better! I grew up on these peas, and can remember sitting out on Aunt Oleene's back porch or Granny's front porch shellin' pea's! Those days were the days, I just didn't know it then. I hope to be able to raise my daughters up shellin' pea's and that they will know these are the days! May God Bless you all! - Melissa I fear no thorns!I just wanted to share with you all that I fear no berry patches when I'm pickin' those berries! But they sure do hurt! lol It seems like the best berries are always burried deep in the patches where the sun hits them often but not completely. We picked about 2 1/4 gallons this morning, and we left berries! We need to go out againt his evening, but we also have s much 4-H stuff to do too!
Watch Our Garden GrowThis is the frst year I've ever planted a garden. I'm so excited and the girls' and I covered it in prayer; we constantly asked God to give us produce and to grant us the ability to not be wasteful and may our harvest be bountiful! We even asked for growth while we were throwing sod clods over the pasture fence by hand. We were hot, tired and sweaty but God gave us persistance. Well, the lettuce is nearly gone, nearly I say... and this is the first zucchini I picked this season. I've got cucumbers on the vine (ony saw two so far, but lots of flowers) and my friend gave me cucumbers so we made pickles for the first time ever today! It was fun!
