• Tuesday, February 5, 2008 - KIDDING SEASON HAS BEGUN

Living on a homestead is very demanding at times but very seldom does the demand ever go without rewards.  One of the most tiresome times of years is when our milk goats start "kidding".  Middle of the night checks on the soon to be mommas, concern during delivery for both mommas and babies.  Feeding 3 times a day and milking twice.  Added dishes from bottles and milk equipment  and often times I find a cage or 2 of newborn kids in my kitchen if the weather is too cold or if they appear to be sluggish.  But always the beauty of God's ways amaze us and all the extra work is soon forgotten.   Birth on the homestead is an event shared and praised by the whole family.  Life, especially new life is amazing.  Here are some photos of kids from the beginning of this years kidding season.

Our dogs love to play momma and clean the kids faces off.

The picture below is of a kid from last year.  I had to share this sense shes so photogenic

God's blessings

I had goats but never got that far with them before we moved away from our farm. I gave them to my friend kalessha she too has pics of them up on her blog both are pregnant and will kid in the spring

she is at www.homesteadblogger.com/awaitinghiskingdom
she has done a wonderful job of bringing them up to health when they were given to us they were quite sick. I miss the idea of the simple life but I too found that it was hard work (especially pregnant my self or with a newborn) My congrats on your success
