It is all gone.  All that snow that we got just before thanksgiving is gone.   All on the first day of hunting season. Tom and Ken went out early on the first day in the cool, foggy air.   Some deer were moving, but not  close enough.   Then the fog turned to rain.  And more rain.  And then it didn't stop.  Those that visit better bring a life preserver! 

We started taking barn loads and putting them in where my new garden area will be.   It looks more like a swamp pit!  I am wondering just how well it will drain this next season even though we are buiding it up a good 8". 

On a good note,  we are saving on on some wood.  We have needed the stove going more for the dampness than the cold.

While saving on wood,  I was absolutely floored when I was in the grocery store yesterday!   Although we have 15 chickens, the weather has really mixed them up and they are not laying yet as some are still molting.   So,   aside from putting the squeeze on the chickens,  I thought I would have to buy a few eggs to supplement.   Wow!   Eighteen eggs for $3.95!   I looked, but they didn't seem gold to me!!! 

As I looked throught the rest of the store, I wondered if I had overslept and missed a few years,  I couldn't believe the price jump in one week!    I know that things will get worse before it gets better, but I can't help but wonder what in the world our children are going to do to get by?   I am trying to teach them to grow their own foods,  my son hunts.    I show the girls how to stretch one pound of meat to feed seconds to a family of five.   But what good will that do if they can't stay out of the city?  They have to earn a living.   The price of gasoline will keep them from living far.    Just what can they do to work from home?   What big paying job will allow them to live  outside the city if they choose?    I wonder how my sons will be able to support a family in the future.
