Muddy Boot Acres

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 - Milking time

came this morning.  I wasn't sure that there would be enough to milk in Bandit, but she was tight this morning.   I did get 18 oz.  That is good for her.   This is how I milk to keep out the crud.   I take a 5qt ice cream bucket and a bleachable white handkerchief and put it on the pail with a rubber band.   Then I bring it in and run it through the milk strainer for the rest of the crud catcher.  I was lucky enough to find a special milk strainer at the local second hand store for .25!   I thought I would have to buy new for $8.   I don't think anyone really new what it was!  I may still take up the offer my friend gave me of taking on another milker for a while on loan if  she doesn't pick up .
