I've been doing a little research on canning and preserving.  Here's some sites that might be helpful to anyone else who might be taking up this very worthwhile occupation. I just wish my tomatoes would start to ripen! Home Canning, Canning Pantry, The Nolls' Home Canning page.

LOve that picture, I was growing some pumpkins and some people came by spraying the weeds and stuff, and guess what, sprayed my pumpkins. DEAD as a door nail.
I was reading my Mother Earth New magazine just a few minutes ago and there were pages and pages of canning info.

Canning

Hi Lizzie!

I am doing a little catching up. You mentioned that you have a glass top stove. So do I. I have used it for canning for 4 years and have never had issues. I have a Presto Stainless Steel Pressure Canner that we picked up from a yard sale about 10 years ago. All we had to do is purchase a new seal. Oh yeah, a gauge too. Last year my son dropped the lid on the tile in our dining room. Oops!
I felt the same as you when I first started canning, but once you get started and have done it a few times, it will be like riding a bicycle.
I will be thinking of you late this week. I should have string beans ready for canning in about 2-3 days!
Good Luck!

Jennifer

You’re St. Melito of Sardis!

You have a great love of history and liturgy. You’re attached to the traditions of the ancients, yet you recognize that the old world — great as it was — is passing away. You are loyal to the customs of your family, though you do not hesitate to call family members to account for their sins.

Find out which Church Father you are at The Way of the Fathers!
