Service to my Family is for the Lord
All my men went paintballing this morning as a celebration for Danny's upcoming marriage to our first daughter'n'laws sister.  It's their version of a "bachlor" party!  So I told all the men that I would get up and make them breakfast of biscuits n gravy and eggs.  #4 son said that he wasn't going to "require" that of his wife someday.  I asked him why he thought I was doing it as "required"?  He said he didn't know what he meant except that everything our family does revolves around food.  "Big food" he said.  I told him that I cooked for everyone because I wanted to and that I felt that it was a way I served the Lord...by serving my family.  The things that I do...cooking, sewing, cleaning, talking, teaching...they are the biggest thing I do for the Lord.  I see the bigger picture now that my children are getting older.  I used to just live for the day when the kids' ages would be 24, 23, 22, 21, 18, 16, 14...or even 12, 11, 10, 9, 6, 4, 2!  I couldn't wait for that next step in their lives.  Now I see that each day...whatever I can do for them...is something I do for the Lord.  Six of our seven children have given their hand to the Lord now.  That is so sweet to me to see because I know that I have raised them to be servants of God.  Servants for God.  That is my service.  Our youngest is 13 going on 14 soon.  We have a granddaughter and expecting our second grandchild in Oct.  What a wonderful life of service I have ahead of me!  But today...today I made biscuits and gravy with all my heart for my family and loved ones.

I really liked your blog about the breakfast, and your sons comment. I wonder why he thought you were "required" to cook. I LOVE cooking! I think your answer to him was very wise.

He may have a completely different love language than task = love, but maybe now he knows. I read the book the 5 love languages, and found it insightful.
