• Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - Why we no longer vaccinate our children
Posted By MotherOfBlessings in
Family
People are often shocked when I tell them that my hubby and I no longer vaccinate (vax) our children. "Why in the world would you do that to your children?!" They ask. Well I will tell you why.
My first 2 children were vaxed right on schedule. I was very diligent about making and keeping their doctors appointments. When child #3 was born she started on her vax schedule. My children had their "regular" bout of ear infections and I dutifully gave them the antibiotics the doctor prescribed to clear them up. Then something happened.
When blessing #3 was 8 months old she was given her MMR vax. Within a few days she was covered from head to toe in small, clear blisters. They were everywhere! It was a bit scary. So I did what good moms do. I called the doctor and got her right in. The doctor spent 30 minutes questioning me. Had I started using a new laundry soap? New body soap? Had I introduced a new solid food? Had I let her have chips or soda? Every question she asked me pointed in only one direction.... what had this mother (me) done? I asked the doctor if it was possible that the vax could have caused it. She looked at me like I was stupid and told how "completely safe" each vax was. An uneasy feeling filled me as I left the office. Something was not right.
Here is where I must say that I can not blame the doctor. As a mother I am responsible for the choice I made to vax my children. I do not believe that using the services of a professional such as a doctor relieves me of the God-given responsibly to train and protect my children. I also must say that when blessing #1 was a baby she received her first 2 polio vax as an oral vax. I read later that this oral vax was a LIVE polio virus and the only cause of every polio case since the 50's. When I brought it to the attention of this doctor she very casually said that I was welcome to choose the injection that contains the dead virus. I should have found a new doctor right then. Alas I didn't.
So here was my infant daughter covered in blisters and all the doctor did was ask me what I had done to cause it and gave us a cream. That rash lasted for over 2 weeks. When it finally cleared up I was relieved. Shortly after that one of my older blessings caught a cold. Then (no surprise) the other 2 caught it too. Well the other 2 children got over it but blessing #3 developed this deep chest cough that just would not go away. She coughed so hard she could not lay down to sleep. She could barely sleep when I held her upright because she just would not stop coughing. The doctor had no answers for me. However, regardless of what the doctor said, I knew that vax caused the problem. None of our children received another vax after that.
Every time one of the children caught a cold she would get it and get that deep nasty cough. Each time it lasted for at least 2 weeks. About a year later I went back in when she was yet again sick. This time I was seen by a different doctor since our regular doctor was out. This doctor prescribed an inhaler! It did help a bit but never completely. So the cycle of cold and cough went on for 2 more years. I can't believe it took me so long to educate myself so I could help my child. As I slowly educated myself I learned about the many children injured by vax. I never knew before that our government actually keeps a database of vax caused injuries and even a fund to compensate them!
When blessing #3 was three my hubby was deployed to Iraq so we had to get our care from the base hospital. So when all of our children (we had 4 blessings now) caught a nasty stomach virus I took them in. So while there I told him about the cough that plagued blessing #3. He listened as I told the whole story and then asked, "Where did you read about R.A.D.?" The he explained all about Reactive Airway Disease. It made sense but when I asked if it could be cause by the MMR vax he too brushed it off. By this time I knew better. I had stared looking into herbal medicine. This last doctor visit convinced me to put my studies into high gear.
R.A.D. is what it is called when ones lungs are extremely sensitive to irritation. It can act a lot like asthma but it is different. Being around a certain dog seems to set it off. I don't know why it is this one dog. It makes her sad because this dog belongs to her grandparent and she adores him but has to keep back. Our dog (lives outside) seems to be no problem. It helped a lot when we pulled up the carpet in out last house so we are doing the same thing in this new one. There is no cure for R.A.D. and my research tells me that she may grow out of it but then again she may not. To say the least it make me extremely MAD that I unknowingly let this happen.
Think I am way off base here? Each couple must decide for themselves if their children should be vaxed. Despite what you may have been told having your children vaxed is NOT required to attend school. Any parent can sign a vax waiver. We did. By the way my blessings that have never been vaxed have never had an ear infection, never needed antibiotics, and get over colds and flu quickly. We use doctors when truly needed. The only time that has happened in the last several year was when we were in a major car accident.
The government, after years of telling us how safe vaxing is have finally admitted that some children have been injured. Read about it here:
http://newsmax.com/health/vaccines_cause_autism/2008/03/03/77315.html
Please do some research before letting your children get one more vax. Please look at these. http://www.dptshot.com/ http://www.909shot.com/ http://poisonevercure.150m.com/abortion_industry_contributes.htm
Also look at the CDC website. You would think you would find mass outbreaks among the non-vaxed. You won't! It just does not happen. By the way, a vax only lasts about 10 years so most adults are complete vax-free! Make the vax decision with much prayer and research! ~ MotherOfBlessings |

• Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - Back into the blogging world
Posted By blessed mom
Well, after taking a much needed blogging break ~~ I have prayerfully decided to resume my blog here at HSB! I I want to use my precious time wisely, so I will try to blog with purpose & under God's direction. I am not sure how much time or how consistent I will be this time around. We'll see how it works out. :)
I have chosen to call my blog: " In all things give thanks" based on the passage from Ephesians 5:20:
" Giving thanks all ways for all things unto God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
One of the things that God has been showing me over this past year is to be truly thankful in all things ~~ both the good things, the great things, the hard things and yes even the painful things of life! In ALL things we are to give thanks & it is my hearts desire to use this blog to bring glory to Him and to lead others to do the same.
May you be blessed!

• Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - ~ A Proverbs 31 Woman ~
Posted By blessed mom
This afternoon I have been spending some time reading and studying Proverbs 31. I have a small bible that I keep by my desk , handy to use when I have a moment in between schooling moments with the children.
I have read thru Proverbs 31 many times, but today I really spent time studying and pondering it's meaning and application in my own life. There are so many nuggets of wisdom in this passage!
I am sure most of you have studied this passage many times and this is not new "stuff" to you at all, but I am learning slowly but surely. :)
I am going to be blogging about this passage & taking it one verse at a time. Feel free to join me in the study or just drop me a note and let me know what your own thoughts are!
May you be blessed!

• Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - Wednesday again?
Posted By Becca
Well today is another Wednesday! I didn't realize what day it was until I Heard the garbage truck. How sad is that? I can barely keep up with my days any more.
I'm still trying to catch up on laundry. I still have a lot to go. Then maybe I can get on a normal schedule or something LOL>.
Supper tonight will be beef stew. I bought some half runner beans from a produce stand Friday; Rach, Ethan and I broke and strung them today, and I put them in with the stew...YUM! I may make cornbread to go with it as well.
We had 3 ears of corn that Jerm got out of the garden Monday! I can't wait to munch on one!
I think we're going to get the kids new bikes for Christmas this year, since Rach & Issac have both learned to ride. I've been looking around to see if I could find the best buy, and also looking around for other ideas as well.
Well, guess I'd better go fix a bowl of ice cream before Lucas goes hungry from his craving! *snicker*
Blessings,

• Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - ******What a beautiful day******
Posted By Page
It is absolutely beautiful outside and I do believe it is going to be very warm which is about time I hasten to add. We don't appear to have had much of a summer so far and it is almost the end of July.
I am feeling good today & especially after ministry that both my DH & I had yesterday evening. This was ministry and prayer that was much needed after the sadness we suffered during our honeymoon. It was a very emotional evening last night for both of us. There were lots of tears (and sobbing from me at one point), but more importantly we were able to hand over our situation to Jesus. Andrew was brilliant here too and I don't think he has opened up emotionally or cried before with others being around - so this was a bit of a breakthrough for him too.
I am believing & praying that the Lord is softening & opening up Andrew's heart and will continue to do so.
I have also been looking for some part-time work whilst waiting to get my own business working from home up and running. I saw an add in the local paper yesterday for a telephonist/dispatcher for a local taxi firm. This vacancy involves working from home and it is part-time. I telephoned one of the partners of the company and I have an interview at her home on Friday in the morning. I am praying that I will get this job as in a lot of ways it would be perfect whilst I get my own business up and running (which is going to take a little while). The only thing that I don't like is that it involves working for a couple of hours on a Sunday morning 7 - 9am as I don't agree with working on Sundays - two hours is fine though & I can just get up earlier, get ready for church, work and then go. Please pray that I do get this job. This will also involve a couple of training sessions at this lady's home (who part-owns the Company) but this job would get me started. I also need at least 16 hours as I would then qualify for Working Tax Credit which would help our finances especially as Andrew's job is no longer secure especially after working for the same Company for 28 years!
Well, I need to go and do some cleaning before heading off into town to run a couple of errands. Have a wonderful blessed Tuesday |

• Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - Home Keeping Binder
I'm working on my "home management binder" (aka...control journal, house keeping journal, etc, etc.) I found a website dedicated to this and thought I would share it.
www.homemanagementbinder.com
Now, if you google home management binder you will come up with tons more information. Truly, one could spend all day reading about binders, crafting the perfect binder, etc. I have decided to just work on one small piece of mine at a time. I'm trying hard not to spend lots of time planning to clean and no time actually cleaning...lol. Today, I made a front cover for it, using a pretty picture from www.allposters.com. I also made a basic master schedule of how our day will look when we begin homeschooling (it still needs a lot of tweaking, but at least I have a format). I've done this in the past, only I wrote it on my dry erase board. Gradually little fingers would come by and create new art or erase who was supposed to be doing spelling while someone else was doing math. Now, I have that sheet safely tucked into a page protector out of reach of little fingers. If my binder starts to look pretty then I'll be sure and post a pic. Right now, it is just "plain Jane" with a few functional sheets.
Blessings,
Mrs. P |

• Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - Praise Reports and a day in the Wood family
Posted By Mrs. Joseph Wood
The Wood family would like to share some answers to prayer. We have had so many of you continue to pray for us and we thank you again for your love toward us. We have decided to boast on His good work and share continued needs of prayer.
Praise Reports:
We had asked for prayer regarding the sale of two trailers that we used to move from CA to KS. God answered those prayers quickly and both trailers are now sold.
We asked for Joy and Peace on our home as we went through this time of transition. This move has to be one of the most peaceful and joyful experiences for each member of the family that we have ever experienced.
We had prayed that He would allow us to be a blessing to our neighbors-we are seeing this prayer answered daily! They too are a blessing to us!
We asked for His grace and mercy as we left my parents and oldest son in CA we also asked for patience as we wait His timing to bring us together again. It has been the Lord that has comforted our hearts- we trust Him to work out all the details for our good and His Glory! By His strength we have been able to do what would have been impossible in our own strength.
We had asked for prayer for Joe's new work. God has given him favor and is blessing the works of his hands! We thank the Father for going before us and making a way!
Prayer requests:
For continued vision to see how He sees and do as He would have us to do.
For those lives we are touching. That we would be a testimony of His love and the enemy would have no room to divide the body of Christ.
For the home in CA to sell.
Okay, so now to answer all those that have been asking, "What exactly do you do with your day now that you live in the city?" Well, let's see... I do believe our days are much quieter and yet so much heart work is being accomplished. We are spending a great deal of time reading, studying, and writing out the Scriptures. I would guess several hours a day but I haven't kept track. It has been more of a living activity and not a task.
We have been taking time to get to know our neighbors as well as the area we are living. Monday the children and I took a bus ride with our neighbors to the state capital. They had a wonderful time and scrap booked about it later that night.
We enjoy the Farmers Market and meet others with the same goals in nutrition as our family. The Lord went before us and gave us favor with a local bee keeper who wants to meet Timothy and offers scholarships to children to start their own bee keeping. What an answer to prayer that was for him!! He loves bees! We also met a blueberry farmer and will be going out and picking blueberries later this week or next. We were able to stop and pray with the owner of the farm that has cancer. I praise God for allowing our paths to cross so we can be prayer warriors on their behalf!
The home is peaceful and quiet. The Lord has "made us to lay down in green pastures." Our days still begin early and end when the sun goes down. We stay on top of all the house work so that our home is clean and orderly. This enables us to minister to others without restrictions or the burden of clutter. The boys find gardening and yard work to do. They cleared a sidewalk area that had overgrown with grass. The neighbors said it hasn't been done for at least the last six years. They were delighted to see the sidewalk again (It is a brick sidewalk that weeds can easily grow up between). Josiah does several of the neighbors yards for money- He is enjoying this opportunity. Elisha continues his art work and is using it to minister to others. Some of the pictures the Lord has given him have been amazing! I will have to share them with you soon. Bekah, Beth and Sarah delight in ministering to the little children here in our area. They consider it a reward to hold the baby across the street and discuss who gets to hold her first when they see them coming to visit.
There are so many other things I could share- glimpses of His grace in our lives. However, I had sent the toddlers up to my room ahead of me so I could write you all a quick note- it is nap time here in the Wood Home. I'm afraid if I don't get laid down with the toddlers quickly I'm going to miss this sweet time with them. I just love to cuddle with the little ones while they sleep don't you?!
Until our next chat dear friends, may all His blessings abound in your heart and home all for His Glory!
With much love,
Mrs. Joseph Wood

Five Steps to Repentance
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance.
Matthew 3:8
I have often wondered how we can apologize for something like getting angry at someone, and then turn around and do it again only a short time later. We try ever so hard to conquer a habit, but we seem to find no victory. Maybe it is because we do not really understand repentance. How do we find real victory over sin?
1. Acknowledgment. Psalm 51:3. The first thing we must do is acknowledge that we have sinned. If we do not acknowledge that we have wronged a brother when we became angry at him (or whatever else we have done) then we have missed the first step.
2. Godly sorrow. 2 Corinthians 7:10. Many times we are sorrowful simply because others have discovered our sin. “What will others think if they hear that I’m a bitter person?” Godly sorrow means we are remorseful that our sins have hurt our Lord.
3. Confession. 1 John 1:9. We may reason that we have said we are sorry, so what more is needed? Or, if ours is a private sin, we may have only confessed it to God, thinking that is enough. But it is not. I remember a time when I did something wrong that involved no one else but myself. One day I became convicted of my wrong and repented of it. Yet I did not find peace until I confessed it to a responsible person. “Confess your faults one to another.”
4. Restitution. Matthew 5:24. We must also be willing to make wrongs right at any cost. Some relationships cannot be restored, but we need to be willing to do our part.
5. Forsaking it. Proverbs 28:13. If we truly repent, we will want to quit sinning. These five steps must be complete before we have really repented from sin. This does not mean we can escape the consequences for sin, but we can accept God’s grace as sufficient for us and begin to overcome our sin.
James Miller, Evart, MI
It takes humility to admit we are wrong; none to insist we are right.

• Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - Salsa!
Good Morning my friends, I am up and feeling froggy today! I look forward to all that the day holds around here... I have a lot to do and we have VBS tonight so I have to get moving... Have a GREAT one! God's blessings to each and all... (((hugs)))
I have had a few requests for my Hot and Spicy Salsa Recipe. If you have visited my blog before then you know most of 'my' recipes are more of an approximation instead of exactness. But I am happy to share and you can add, take away, whatever you like!
Ok, I had peppers, whatever kind, how many you like... cayenne, jalapeno, habanero, bell, cherry hot, Thai hot...
I took about 3 overflowing hand-fulls. I cut off the stem, and tossed em into the food processor, yes seeds and all!
I took a HUGE onion and chopped it in the food processor as well.
Cilantro... SO good! Chop up several sprigs... this is a beautiful thing so be sure you use it.
Now as I take this out of the food processor I am putting it all into a big 8 quart stock pot.
I now began adding tomatoes. I would take my tomatoes and if there was any blemish I would cut that off and then quarter them and toss them in the food processor. I really do not know how many I ended up using, I just kept processing until I had enough to fill my stock pot. Sorry this is not more precise... but this doesn't have to be! If I had to guess how many I would say it took about 20 tomatoes. Remember that is a GUESS!!!
Ok, I have an almost full stock pot, I would say we are about 3 inches from the top!

Add about 1/3 cup vinegar, doesn't matter what kind.
Add about 1/4 cup sugar
Now this is a big guess because you just need to taste and see.... 4-5 Tbsp of Salt
SEVERAL-MANY grinds of freshly ground black pepper
1- 6 oz can of tomato paste
(I did not add these in previous batches and my salsa was a bit on the juicy side, these helped to add a bit more RED and to thicken things up a little!)
At this point taste... if it needs more salt, add it, if it is too sweet, add a little lemon juice, if it needs some more heat throw in some Texas Pete or maybe some horseradish... ooooooh that gives me a good idea!
I let that simmer for a good 30 min or a little longer if you need. Get it good and hot, but not necessarily boiling.
Have your jars hot and clean and have your lids ready.
When you have it in your jars have your hot water bath ready... you want to process this for a good 15 min, in really hot water. You want to make sure you are getting a good seal.
Have fun, and make sure you have your tortilla chips ready... you are going to want snack on this for sure!
My Cup Runneth Over...Chas |
