Hodgepodge

It has been so long since I actually 'blogged.'  So here is a run down of what what has been happening in my life in the past several weeks.

My grandson came through cancer surgery with flying colors - doctors got it all, but  wanted to do chemo.  After exploratory surgery it was decided that all he needed was monitoring.  Praise God!  Thanks for all of you who prayed for Baby Marcellus.
I finished my quilt block for the Christmas quilt block challenge.  We're not allowed to show our blocks to you until we all have received our blocks.
My daughter-in-law was seen in taking her little one to church and staying for all the services!  Hallelujah!  Now to get her hubby to go too!
I hosted the annual Alumni weekend potluck - one of the attendees got up from dinner and went out to the little grass air strip behind the school and crashed in the trees at the end of the strip.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.
We attended two weddings in the past month.  One was a first time wedding and the other was an older couple - her fifth marriage!
I've been making apple butter for Christmas presents for my kids.
The bosses went on vacation to Colorado and California for two weeks and my coworker and I ran the store.  I got in a lot of overtime.  Hopefully we have enough money now to fix the roof so that it stops raining in the dining room.
We have eaten last of the fresh veggies from the garden.  It was an awful garden this year.  All I have left are a few peppers yet to freeze.
My niece was in a car accident.  She was with her boyfriend when he lost control in a large puddle and hit a tree.  She hit her head on the windshield and had to be in a neck brace until it was determined that her neck was not broken.  She was sent home from the hospital with 10 staples in her head.  She won't be riding with her boyfriend anymore, I guess.
We've bought two doors for the upstairs bedrooms.  Stained and polyurethaned them.  Now we just need to get them up and the door handles installed so the dog will stay off of the bed in the guest room!  Can't wait to lock out my son, too!  He is always throwing his dirty clothes in there - as if the guest room was one big dirty clothes hamper!
I found a set of The Bible Story books at Good will for under $10.  My set was very old and very used - falling apart.  To purchase this set new can run into the hundreds of dollars.  This set was totally unused.  It's sad that the last family didn't use them, but very good for me!
I discovered an on line comment that my oldest son made three years ago.  He called himself 'defender of the faith.'  He is not attending church right now, so this comment brought hope to my heart!

I really enjoy reading everyone's blogs.
Have a wonderful day!

My Grandbaby needs your help

My youngest grandchild was born with a Wilm's tumor.  It is always in the kidney.  It is always cancer.  He had his kidney removed over a month ago.  At that time the surgeon said that the cancer had not spread and there would be no need for chemotherapy.  Due to pressure from other cancer doctors he has changed his mind.
My son and daughter-in-law have been talking to doctor's all over the USA, interviewing them about the cancer and the possibilities of it spreading.  The odds are very low that it can spread, given that the tumor was not all cancer - just some parts buried in the tumor.
We know of a pathologist who read the pathology report to interpret it for us and she said that under the circumstances she would not have chemo - no way, no how.
Now they just have to find a pediatric oncologist who will treat a child who has had cancer with almost no chance of recurrence with herbal and/or nutritional therapy.  The local oncologist said that if we find one - and he agrees to take over the care of my grandson, that they will not sue to have chemo forced on their family.
In doing the research on this top, they have discovered that the chemicals that are used are so toxic that if one drop gets on the child's skin, he would need a skin graft because the burn would be so bad.  His parents do not want such a toxic substance pumped directly in their child's heart!
So please, if you know of a pediatric oncologist who is willing to treat without drugs or toxic substances, please let me know.
I have been told that people have tried to post comments on my page.  If you have trouble, please send me a pm.
Thanks in advance.

Why My Fingernails Look So Dirty

Let's see. . .  On Sunday afternoon I picked two gallons of black raspberries and made jelly on Monday morning before I went to work.  I squeezed the jelly bag quite a bit getting the juice all over my hands (and under my fingernails).

On Monday I bought a flat of strawberries and made jam on Tuesday morning before I went to work.  I top the strawberries with my fingers  - I don't use any fancy gadget - thus getting my fingernails stained some more.

Today I went in search of cherries to pick.  I found a u-pick orchard just as they were closing for the day.  (I set off on an adventure not knowing where I was going - a lot like Abraham of old! )  I found a truck by the side of the road selling cherries quite cheaply, so I bought a bunch and will be canning cherries and making jam in the morning before I go to work.  I probably will stain my hands some more. . .

While I was out on my adventure I saw the bottle house in Kaleva, Michigan.  I had never heard of it before, so it helped to make my adventure that much more interesting.  I didn't have my camera with me so I have stolen a picture of it from Julie Quinn's gallery.  I hope she doesn't mind my stealing her Kaleva Bottle House picture.  There are several more pictures of the house on her websight:  http://www.pbase.com/qjul73/bottlehouse
The front of the house below the front windows says 'Happy' on one side of the front door and 'Home' on the other.  All designed in bottles.

Yesterday an internet friend called me while I was at work.  How cool is that?  I have never talked to or met anyone I know from on line before.

Wrestling with God

"Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome." - Genesis 32:28

Jacob had spent his life manipulating to get his way. He was very good at it. He knew when to hit someone at their weakest point to get what he wanted and when to lie and smooth the road a little to tilt the scales in his direction.

However, those decisions had cost him dearly. He had to leave home and run for his life and his own uncle had manipulated and used him to marry both his daughters and labor for free. Now he was to meet up again with his brother Esau who was still very angry over Jacob stealing their father's blessing for the birthright.

Jacob became very aware of his real character and realized he needed help - much help. He knew God had promised to bless him. Yet, he knew he had never given God control to do what he promised. He was ever fearful and would always intervene in his own way to manipulate or control events for fear God wouldn't come through. He never waited on God. This instance wasn't much different. In an effort to placate his brother, he had sent large gifts ahead of him to try and manipulate Esau with material goods so Esau wouldn't pursue him.

Jacob realized that yet again he was venturing to do things without God. This was serious and everything seemed to hang in the balance. He knew he must change. He had to know God was with him and that he was not acting alone.

He went to a solitaire place and spent the night wrestling with God. He wanted to change. He wanted to be blessed and he would not let go until that happened. In the end, he received not only the blessing, but the character change he was seeking. The man asked him, "What is your name?" "Jacob," he answered. Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."

It's interesting to note that God changed his name from Jacob: “swindler, thief, stealer” to Israel: “one who struggles with God and overcame”. God literally changed who Jacob was. Israel was to become a mighty man and nation and a person the people could see the character of God through.

We need to get to that place. We need to wrestle our issues out with God and not let go until He changes us and gives us His blessing. It's hard work and it requires determination not to let go and give up until He does what He has promised in us. He will change us. He will overcome the issues in our lives that limit His blessings on us. Our wrestling is a process and isn't always pleasant. It's a battle between our nature and God's changing power. It's a process of letting go and letting God take control. It's distrusting our fears and our own efforts and letting God prove to us His ability to lead our lives. Jacob's life is our example. He will change our character and make us into "one who struggles with God and overcomes".

Trading on God's Gifts

"And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man

according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey."

--Matt. 25:15.

The parable of the talents ... has a personal and individual application to every man, woman,
and child possessed of the powers of reason. Your obligation and responsibility are in proportion to
the talents God has bestowed upon you. . . .
When the master of the house called his servants, he gave to every man his work. The whole family
of God are included in the responsibility of using their Lord's goods. Every individual, from the lowliest and most obscure to the greatest and most exalted, is a moral agent endowed with abilities for which he is accountable to God. . . . The spiritual, mental, and physical ability, the influence, station, possessions,
affections, sympathies, all are precious talents to be used in the cause of the Master....
Let the businessman do his business in a way that will glorify his Master because of his fidelity. Let
him carry his religion into everything that is done, and reveal to men the Spirit of Christ. Let the mechanic
be a diligent and faithful representative of Him who toiled in the lowly walks of life in the cities of Judea.
Let every one who names the name of Christ so work, that man by seeing his good works may be led to
glorify his Creator and Redeemer. . . .
Those who have been blessed with superior talents should not depreciate the value of the services
of those who are less gifted than themselves. The smallest trust is a trust from God. The one talent,
through diligent use with the blessing of God, will be doubled, and the two used in the service of Christ will be increased to four; and thus the humblest instrument may grow in power and usefulness. The earnest purpose, the self-denying efforts, are all seen, appreciated, and accepted by the God of heaven.... God alone can estimate the worth of their service and see the far-reaching influence of him who works for the glory of his Maker.
