Friday, June 6, 2008 - Drive Bys: Around The World
Saturday, May 24, 2008 - Today
This bird was found in the privet of our new back yard today, I am always surprised by what the parrots will eat. When we moved from a medium sized town in 2003 back to a place with more parrots in the mountains I first noticed this. When I was little the parrots I noticed where usually in a cotoneaster tree. 2003 was a drought year, so I assumed they were just hungry.
The parrots in this new yard can be up the tree while you are under it, which I find amazing. They are not very quick to fly away. We do have a cotoneaster tree there, and there are cut off bits of tree everywhere under it. It is quite cute.

My husband and son were driving to our new house this morning to work on the back of the house where the asbestos was removed. I have seen cockatoos when we come home just on dark, they seem to sleep in the trees along the river. This is a creek that must flow into the river nearby.

I find I haven't been able to go to the new house as much as I would like on the weekend. Today one daughter was sleeping over at a friends house, and the older one had netball. This is a new thing, this was her third game. It is netball that is only played in town, I don't have to drive her to football matches that are away.
The pond was pumped out today to see if the fish are really still in there. Hubby pumped the water into a childs pool until it was full and did see some fish, so that is great. We felt a bit silly feeding water, if you know what I mean.

Sunday, May 11, 2008 - Happy Mother's Day

My Mother's Day has only a few hours left. This photo was taken a few hours ago, I noticed the sunset when I was closing the blinds. The girls made me up a basket with things they had, plus things they had bought at the Mother's Day stall at school. There were various cards. The one I liked the most was one with a teapot and tea things on it. See tea older entries here. Also the two little girls tried out the recipe for pineapple sage on the other post and I really enjoyed it. Older dd bought me a pretty candle. One mug was filled with rumballs which I enjoy.
We had fog early but it was warm enough to sit in the sun while dh worked on the back cladding of the new house. |

Thursday, May 8, 2008 - Another day gone

My husband has taken two great photos of the sky recently. I was very excited to find out I could join in Sky Watch Friday, even though I posted this photo a week ago, I thought I would enter it. There was no original post to go with it, just a photo. I found Sky Watch here. So I am new, and hope we have some more sky photos to share in the coming weeks.
I did have a little thing at the bottom for awhile, For My Dad. I was saying to my husband that Dad won't get to see the moon again, hubby said not to dwell on those things. Dad passed away last Monday.

Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - Dogs On Thursday

Last weekend our dog went collecting wood. I didn't go this time, but he was very excited to be going. I have included these photos from a previous wood collecting day.

He is an old dog, his name is Mousse. He lives in the backyard, so enjoys going to our new house or wood collecting for a nice change. Of course, being a hunting dog, he would enjoy smelling all the animal smells in the bush.

"Hmm, what have I done wrong?".. says Mousse. We have since got a new chainsaw. "I love collecting drinking water".

"I found something!"

Sunday, May 4, 2008 - This week

This photo was taken today, it is like a painting isn't it? It is a wonderful paddock, has all different patterns in it sometimes. Apparently it is leased, and very high producing.
Today wasn't very warm. But after some wood stacking, we went to the new house, and in the backyard I sat on a deck chair and it was like sunbaking. The kids were really happy for awhile, getting a perfect configuration on their waterfall. We have a waterfall in the backyard, man made. The real estate agent said it didn't look good when we were thinking of selling the house. Today though, the sound was like being in the bush. So maybe that will be the theme when we plant out the pond.
We got all those little plants planted finally. Some where trees, but I think I will wait until next year to put them in their final positions as they are so small at the moment.
I hung some curtains that I kept forgetting to take to the new house. The room isn't finished but the curtains will help with privacy, and I think helped.

We got mowing done, leaves raked, wood cut on the weekend. Our pantry challenge is working, only one more day to go. The sweet potato & tuna patties were delicious, so relieved about that.
The week was cold really. A few times I had cold hands. By the end of the week I was seeing blue sky and beautiful autumn leaves again. There is still a tiny bit of smoke around I think.
This week our daughter 11 made a beautiful apple pie type thing. She didn't have to cook the apples, just slice them up. It was lovely. One day they made fruit salad as well.
We got the books dropped off to the op-shop.

Sunday, May 4, 2008 - Snow Pic

As you can see it did indeed snow. It is amazing that we have seen it now. This photo was taken today. It is amazing that 3 weeks ago we were driving up there and there was no snow at all!

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 - More Snowy Mountain Photos
Monday, April 28, 2008 - It's snowing again!
To everyone who has asked about my weather this week, the cold has caught up to us! This is a picture from last year to show what I have to look forward to for views in the coming months.

Apparently today it was snow down to 1,000 metres which seems right. So we could tell it was snowing somewhere, but didn't see any here. We have plenty of wood at the moment, so enjoying it very much. DD14 made some nice stewed apple with cloves in it, and I ate it warm, so a lot happier and cosy now.

Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - Burning Off

Our autumn has been very nice. Sometimes the sky is very blue. There are days though when it is an eerie yellow and there are shadows cast. It is very pretty when the butterflies cast a shadow on the shed wall.
In order to keep the bush free of matter the bushfires can burn next summer we have this burning off. On Saturday we were driving home from our other house and saw two fires that were very pretty as it was dark or nearly dark. We saw a whole ridge outline. It reminds me of where I grew up. |

Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - Our Trip

On Saturday we went to the city, via the mountains. We saw our son's new flat in a nice area, but very small. The next time I saw it, I was very happy that with some of the furniture it looked just like home. We helped him shift and took our daughter who is 6 for her first time to a zoo with her two sisters, other brother and eldest ds' girlfriend. She is pictured with a dingo.

I can see why ballet have swans in them now. I hadn't seen one up close, they have ruffled feathers at the back like a tutu.

Sunday, March 30, 2008 - Summer Has Gone
Well it is a lot cooler than it was. On Easter Saturday it was nice. Not too hot, and we went swimming. On Monday it rained a lot, we needed it. Now it is near 0oC at night, we have an electric heater on during the day, and have collected some firewood. Here is a photo from Easter Saturday.

We had our son and his girlfriend here for Easter. He had to work over Christmas so it was very good, he took this photo for me.
It is the school holidays here, we have a week to go. Today dd14 and dd11s friend made a pizza base today, it is a quick rise dough.
We have been cleaning up the garden here since it rained. Now we are back to fixing up our new house.

Wednesday, March 26, 2008 - Our Weeding Surprise
We have had beautiful rain since Monday. The countryside had a brown look. So today dh is weeding at our current house. He went around the side at the front to clean up and found a blue-tongued lizard. A different one to the one we found a few years ago.

Tuesday, March 25, 2008 - Another sunflower year gone!
Yes, we have just pulled them up. I am not sure how many years ago, an online gardener gave me the seeds to some wonderful sunflowers, I enjoy them a lot.
These were earlier on in the year. They came up in the soil that was moved to our new house with the plants.

Saturday, April 7, 2007 - My photo from Yesterday

As you can see the rain has turned things green. But really, dh is weeding the garden and after that uses grey water to water the plants. It is strange.
The children all did well with their dressing up for the reenactment. I couldn't believe the costumes, it was lovely to see.
The kids have been playing outside today. DH found a basket fungus in the back yard which was interesting for everyone.
I hope you are all well.

Sunday, October 29, 2006 - My Long Awaited Wildflowers

The wildflowers have only just started coming out. The orange ones, haven't really started to bloom yet. They are unusual to me anyway. I have been here 3 years and really love them. They are brighter when they come all the way out.

You don't usually see holly commonly in Australia. I am so glad it grows near my fence. The other plant is wattle. It has a lovely scent. This photo was taken in spring, and it is autumn at the moment. |

Monday, April 17, 2006 - Today's Photo
Sunday, April 9, 2006 - Today

These are photos from our front yard today. The butterfly photo was taken first. The butterfly is newly hatched. I was asking my husband about the spots and he thinks it is like a signal to predators that it is a butterfly and not to eat it because it is poisonous. They are like that because they feed on milkweed when they are catapillars. I call it a Swan Plant. Our last lot of catapillars stripped the whole plant of leaves as you can see. The rose is called Renae.
The wood stack is temporary. We have to do alot of site work in the place where we stacked wood last year. We had an old "chook shed" that was a wood shed in the corner that blocked the view from the side street. Sometimes we have 5" of rain and the corner is like a waterfall. All this was conceled by things put behind the shed including half drums that we have since made into herb planters. The woodchips hid the water. It flooded the shed twice, the shed nearby that holds our tools etc. a garage, so we will attempt to fix that first. In the meantime the little shed has been moved and it keeping our guineapigs dry and happy.
The spikey purple flower, if anyone knows what it is I would love to know. The thin tree is an ornamental pear. |
