Monday, September 3, 2007 - Our new homestead
Hi everyone.
It is the 3rd day of spring here at the moment, things are moving along very fast. Our native wattle and sarsperilla (Happy Wanderer) has just come out along the roadsides. Some street trees are plums or prunus and they have just come out.
At our new home, we got the key on Friday. We have been able to transport and plant out most of the plants we had potted up. It is a double block, and took ds19 a couple of days to mow it all, and it looks nice. Yesterday we tried out the wood heater and it worked well, dh was happy with it. The internal walls are thick brick so he thinks things will be toasty in there.
There is a garden waterfall there. Yesterday I bought a pump for the waterfall. I don't usually spend money on that, but the waterfall was something I promised myself I would get ready first, for the children. I hope to get the fish in two weeks after a lot of trouble, hopefully by then we will have the mesh in place. I also bought some algae cleaner, you just measure it and mix with water and add. I can't wait to see how effective it is. I am visiting there tomorrow as the power is being put on, or I hope so. Today the phone was put on. We have barley straw to keep the pond clean. I am not sure how it works. I bought a waterlily and you just drop it in. We planted papyrus. Will have to get the electrician to check the safety of the wiring to the pond, Australia has 240 volts for houses, and most times, lower voltage for gardens. It is very scarey.
We found lots of nice roses in the garden with tags still attached.
