2006-Mar-17 - A tip for all the dog owners out there...
Well....today we had a 'mishap' of sorts....Marc was trimming Cooters nails (claws more like!) and got one a bit toooooo short......it started bleeding, pretty good amount....EEEk!
We have always cut our dogs nails...administered their shots, etc....so when he (Cooter the dog :) started bleeding so much we felt TERRIBLE! If this happens to your beloved pooch....mix a tablespoon of plain ol' flour and a tablespoon of cornstarch with a small amount of water--to make a THICK paste....glob it on the bleeding area (NEVER use peroxide on a dog!) and we covered it with gauze and med. tape....which he chewed off shortly thereafter....but--it gave it some time to do the job & to stop (for the most part) the bleeding...we did this again about an hour later.....and just kept him in his kennel...(clean,dry) and he seems just fine now....poor pup! :(

2006-Mar-18 - Nail clipping
Posted by spinninggrandma
If your dog has black nails, you can see the white (quick) that you should not cut into ... if they are white, it's a little bit more dicy. It is pretty bad for YOU if you cut them, but except for a short amount of pain, the dog doesn't care if he's bleeing or not. However, it will teach him to not like nail clipping, so that part, in itself, is enough to be careful for!
Too bad ... but it happens to all of us one time or another. We have quick-stop, never would have thought of your solution.
