Just when I thought there couldn’t be another ‘unique’ book to be put out on homeschooling, Marilyn Rockett proves me wrong. Homeschooling at the Speed of Life is a look at the overall life of the homeschooling family, with a different twist. It really looks at the ‘big picture’ of it all, while breaking it down into sections too. The twist that makes Homeschooling at the Speed of life something new in the ‘homeschooling book arena’ is the ‘key’ and that ‘key’ is being organized. It’s tough to homeschool when everything is, as my 6 year old would say it, ‘askew’.
This quote sums it up! “Organization is making your life work for you by bringing the dailiness of life under control through yielding to the Holy Spirit concerning the wise use of your time.”
This book is not sharing a ‘one size fits all’ type ‘plan’. I’ve read PLENTY of those books, and let me tell you what works for the Smith family down the road who homeschools, is not necessarily going to work for the Barthuly tribe. Marilyn offers wise direction, and tools. It is up to us to glean from her experience & use those tools and create what works for our family. Homeschooling at the Speed of Life is a nice 8 ½” x 11” paperback, of over 175 pages and Marilyn’s “File-a-Plan” CD (included in the back of the book) organizing system is such a blessing, because *We* customize it for OUR family!
I love Marilyn’s quote, “A perfect home is not and should not be the goal. Rather, our calling is to a God honoring home.” AMEN!
We don’t need more books on ‘how to perfectly organize your home according to the author who doesn’t live there’, we need prayer, knowing what works and doesn’t for OUR family and home, according to God’s calling for our family. Marilyns book is hopeful, helpful and humourous. A great read & a great help for this homeschooling Mom.
