Our Little Homestead

2006-Jan-12 -

Well, yesterday was.....interesting.  The dog continues to harass the local wild turkeys.....he treed a few yesterday --and is doing it again this morning---I have NEVER seen a wild turkey fly so high.......one of them ended up at least 100 feet up in a pine tree!    It is comical to watch, altho it probably scares those turkeys a bit.

Yesterday Dad and the girls were working on History and are reading Martha of California.....they decided to get out their pans and things from one of our History Unit Study kits from Hands n Hearts ( www.handsandhearts.com ) on Westward Expansion..... well, this kit comes with all needed to pan for gold--we'd done this once before--but still had an extra bag of sand/rock....so they decided to pan 'fer gold!'  They started this out upstairs.....and got to be past lunch time and they were still pannin'.....so they move this project downstairs....to the kitchen/dining room, so Daddy can make lunch while the girls continue to 'pan'....Daddy makes lunch, they are still panning, he decides he'll get the stew going in the crockpot....

Dad announces panning will cease, while they eat lunch....they bring the pan with sand and water to him, he's making stew, I am getting napkins--the girls are washing up--a flurry of activity......then, Dad is OVER multi tasking.....how do we know this ? He dumped the pan of sand from the 'gold panning' into the crock for the stew.   a;lsfjda;lskjdf;laksjdfl;aksd  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too FUNNY!  Wasted a good stew that had been started--but it was a good laugh!! ;)

We got thru that mess, and finished lunch...and panning.  :)

We do Keepers at Home Program....on Wednesday eves--and last night the girls and I started on patchwork quilts for their dollies. These patchwork quilts came in a kit (I'll have to look at the company I got them from) really neat...last night we started cutting all the pieces.  This will be a fun, simple enough project for them, with fun results for them. If I ever get around to it, I'll post some pictures. :)

That's about it.......it's still early out west......we'll see what today brings.......!!

Have a great day in the Lord!

Lisa

Your house sounds like mine and there is only the 3 of us - the sand may have been flavorful!!! A little extra fiber!!!

Ok, that made me laugh! We use to do the Keepers program, it was fun! We did it as a homeschool group and my dd learned all sorts of stuff, her favorite was scrapbooking and pressing flowers.
