2006-May-24 - More Benzene Anyone ?

On February 24 and February 27, 2006, EWG purchased the following drinks at four major retail outlets in Washington, DC. They all contained ascorbic acid and either sodium benzoate or potassium benzoate—the ingredients that the FDA and the beverage industry have said can mix together to form benzene, a known human carcinogen. The actual levels of benzene formed in these products may be at trace levels and well within legal limits for drinking water.  (I always love that "it's within legal limits" thing.............!!!!!!! )

YUK! I'm glad that I drink water most of the time. It makes me shiver to think of giving these to my children to drink...especially the Kool-Aid. I can't believe they would put it into a children's drink. H2O here we come!!!

Wow! You've listed some of my family's favorite drinks. Thanks for being a good steward. It is definitely appreciated. I'm so glad I've received this new calling in my life to live (and eat) simply. No more over-processed, chemical laden foods and beverages for my family. Hubby must be weaned slowly away from processed snacks.
