I wonder ....

• Friday, May 9, 2008 - Tick tock, get a new clock

I woke up this morning to find my husband still soundly sleeping next to me ..... odd ...... it was 6:00 a.m. & he should have been gone already. I woke him up & he jumped out of bed to get ready. He wakes the children so they can get breakfast eaten & chores done ...... kisses me goodbye & darts off to work. A few minutes later he came back in & told me it was only 5:40 a.m. Some how our clock was changed ..... poor guy LOL It's now 6:30 a.m. & children's chores are all done ........ great start for the day!!!

Speaking of time .... it's time for a couple of my children to have their yearly check ups .... and some are due for immunizations (according to the doctors schedule) .... I sure hope we don't have any issues to deal with when the dr's find out we don't immunize. They know we haven't with our 1 year old .... which they're not happy about .... but I think they're expecting a delayed schedule.

Do you use wooden bowls to mix recipes in? Do you use them to eat with also? Where's a good place to get them?

Do you use cast iron pots & pans? Where's a good place to get them?

Today we'll be making a solar oven out of a pizza box. Once we get the hang of cooking in it, we'll make a more advanced & larger version ...

Flea markets are probably your cheapest place for these items (occasionally Goodwill or garage sales). I purchased my cast iron from these sources. the thought of wooden bowls is intriguing - as long as they weren't treated with something...
if you want to purchase new www.lehmans.com is an EXCELLANT source for old fashioned stuff. We live near them and it's such a neat store!

Most of our cast iron skillets were from family members who have passed away. We did get a few from yard sales.
You can buy cast iron from Lehman's and Cracker Barrel used to carry them.

About Me

We are a family of 9 right now. Our dreams of homesteading have taken flight .... even if the plane is still sitting on the runway, at least we have flight plans. We home school, home church and run home businesses. Our favorite thing to do is spend time together <GASP> Yes, we actually enjoy each others company. Some times we just sit, chatting ... other times we're watching the races ..... at times we're reading books ..... and other times we're just playing with what ever we can find. This blog will be used to keep track of the journey we're on .... the journey of life ... I'll post about many things .... like ....... drama skits my children create, how to's of homesteading (or maybe the how-not-to's as I find them out), home school projects, lessons and findings, basic thoughts running through my brain ... and probably everything in between. I look forward to your wisdom, input & friendship.
