I wonder ....

Our plans are to eventually be growing a good amount of the foods we eat:

lettuce
cabbage
tomatoes
celery
cucumbers
carrots
beets
radishes
bell peppers (all colors)
onions

pumpkin

We haven't decided whether or not to grow fruit trees.

Where do you purchase your seeds from? How do I find out the gardening zones for seasonal information?

Just thinking of a simpler life brings such a calm ..... I picture ma Ingalls, washing clothes while watching her children play in the field. Pa working on the barn or pitching hay, while the dog Jack runs circles around the hay stack. After dinner pa plays his fiddle and every one dances in circles in the dining/living room. What a wonderful day and an even better ending to it!

You can google the zone maps for growing in your area. Most universities have an agricultural department that can help you get started as well.

I go to our local feed and seed co op for all my seeds and little plants that've already been started. I find that they are only going to have what grows well in our particular area so it makes things simple.

Growing your own food is such a rewording thing. It is neat how you start a plant from a little seed you water it, weed it and one day you eat it, can it or freeze it. Let us know what you plant and how it goes. God Bless. mj

The Little House books are some of our absolute favorites!! We homeschool, also, and our favorite year was doing the Prairie Primer, based on the Little House books. An entire year of Little House in a unit study!! If you haven't done it yet, you REALLY MUST!! You can get it from http://www.cadroncreek.com from the author, Margie Grey or at http://www.christianbook.com. You will have a blast!!

About Me

We are a family of 9 right now. Our dreams of homesteading have taken flight .... even if the plane is still sitting on the runway, at least we have flight plans. We home school, home church and run home businesses. Our favorite thing to do is spend time together <GASP> Yes, we actually enjoy each others company. Some times we just sit, chatting ... other times we're watching the races ..... at times we're reading books ..... and other times we're just playing with what ever we can find. This blog will be used to keep track of the journey we're on .... the journey of life ... I'll post about many things .... like ....... drama skits my children create, how to's of homesteading (or maybe the how-not-to's as I find them out), home school projects, lessons and findings, basic thoughts running through my brain ... and probably everything in between. I look forward to your wisdom, input & friendship.
