Garden Thoughts

Yesterday I worked out in my herb garden for over two hours.   Last night I paid for it...I have what some people might call "restless legs".   I swear I was up all night long with them aching!   Now you would have thought I had learned my lesson from that but noooo, I had to go out this morning and start on my front gardens.
Working in my "Rose Garden" this morning I noticed that more of my poor ole roses have died off, or at least part of the bush has over the winter.   I love roses but apparently they don't like me.   While I feed them and prune them back each year they never seem to thrive.   I really don't understand what I'm doing wrong either.   Mom said that roses are "picky" and she must be right.
As I was cleaning my gardens this morning I noticed how horrible our picket fence is really starting to look.   It's gone from it's clean, crisp, white look to a well weathered white!   Now I'm the first to tell you the "weathered look" is my all time favorite but because we have such white siding on our house, the fence really needs to stay white.   So, I'll have to give it through paint job when this weather quits being so rainy.   Thankfully Jeni is old enough this year to help me out as that's a pretty good sized fence to paint.   It will be fun to have some "girl time" as we paint our day away!
Walking around this morning I noticed how everything is starting to bud out.   For some reason I seem to take so many things for granite and I never notice them in a casual glance.   It reminded me of that saying that goes something like this, "Your Never Any Closer to The Lord Than When Your on Your Hands and Knees in the Garden."   So true!   You can almost feel Him right there beside you helping you pull weeds!
Now I do have a confession to make...I have already bought my first annuals!   Earlier this week when I went to town I couldn't resist buying two six packs of pansies.   Every year I buy them in memory of my Grandmother Croucher.   She loved them so much it's like having her here with me again.   In fact, a lot of the flowers I grow are in her memory.   I never look at my Hens and Chicks without thinking of her.   I have the pansies in my greenhouse now but hopefully this weekend I'll plant them over to a hanging basket and hang it above my water garden.
Well, it's time to get some inside work done on this old house.  I hope everyone is having a wonderful day and staying safe from all these storms that are springing up around us.   Hugs, Sher

Hi,

I just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed reading your blog. I just spent the last half hour reading and enjoying your photos. What kind of camera do you have? It takes such nice pictures. We're looking to get a new camera so I was just wondering what you had.

I planted 2 six packs of pansies among my daffodils last week. I'm in CT and this was the first year I planted this early. Wouldn't you know we had some snow yesterday! It all melted though and my flowers are fine. :-)

I spent lots of time working in my herb and flower beds last week when the weather here was so nice. There's still so much to do out there.

Sorry I got so long winded, but I did enjoy your blog so much.

Just stopping by to say hi. I am inspired to get out there and get some of my flowers spruced up as well as plant some new ones in the garden. Happy Spring!
