Old Crow Farm

It's a Cool Wednesday on the Farm!

Good Morning Everyone!
It  looks as though our local weathermen have been wrong once again...We went to bed last night thinking we would wake up to the sun shinning with the chance of showers by evening.  From the looks of the sky those showers aren't going to hold off that long! GRRR  We were really hoping for a nice day today because for some reason Seth's college has the day off so he said he would come home and help Keith on the outside of the cabin.   Keith can do a lot of the work by himself but when it comes to climbing on that roof it's always nice not only to have an extra set of hands but also someone to call for help if God forbid he should fall!!!  Even if they only get a couple of hours worth of work done it's really going to help and then when the weather turns nasty Keith can spend the inside working on the wiring.
As most of your know, I really wanted to do the inside of the cabin in old barn wood but old barn wood around here is scarcer than hen's teeth!   Saturday Keith attended a farm auction and to our surprise and delight they had a pile of old lumber.   He called and said he knew it would be hours before it was auctioned off and wasn't sure he wanted to wait around on it.   I went into my "whining mode" and he agreed to wait! HA   Eight hours later he called to say I was now the proud owner of enough wonderful old wood to hopefully at least do the living room part of the cabin!
Now Keith's idea of wonderful and mine are two different things.  It wasn't until he pulled into the driveway and I had a chance to actually see the wood until I breathed a sigh of relief!   For once the poor guy did a super job of buying!!!!!    I could not keep my hands off that wonderful old wood.   It was just perfect!   Something straight off an old barn!  The Lord certainly answered my prayers!
Since Keith had to wait for eight hours you know he couldn't pass up buying a few other things!   Normally he buys what I call "worthless junk" but this time he really over-did himself in picking out wonderful things!....He bought us 12 old railroad ties for raised flower beds, (These will go out around the cabin and in my mind I can see Hollyhocks and sunflowers coming out of them!) a little white Shabby Chic table that has a little drawer (We'll remove two leaves from it and it will make the perfect coffee table for in there!) and a color television that had only been turned on twice!
And the really best part was, Keith had the chance to talk to the ninety year old man that owned the farm.   He got a to know the history of each of the things he bought.  Normally I feel so bad when an old farmer is selling his things (Reminds me in just a few short years it's going to be us doing the very same thing!) but this man was happy.   He told Keith that his things were selling for more than he paid for them and his farm land brought $1650 an acre so he was more than pleased.
We are getting to the point now where I'm going to have to be deciding whether we are going to have a cabin or a cottage.   At this point the furniture will go either way.   Since Keith isn't a carpenter we weren't sure how much room we were really going to have in each of the rooms so Keith went out and moved an old bed in the bedroom just to see.   Of course now he's going to have to take it all the way out so he can finish the room (HA) but at least we have an idea if we are going to have room for a TV in there.   Thankfully the answer is yes!   Needless to say I'm really getting anxious for this to be finished up!!!!
Well, it's time for me to get my tail in gear and get some work done around here.   I promised Keith Salisbury Steak with Mushroom-Onion Gravy for supper so best get in there and get some bread baked to go with it...After all, you can't have a good old comfort meal without fresh baked bread!!!!   Have a good day everyone and stay safe.   Hugs, Sher
