Auctions
I know, I never have two post on the same day but I just had to share all of this with you!    Yesterday Keith and I got up bright and early and headed for our local  "Sale Barn".    This is where every  Monday morning all the old farmers meet and sell their "stuff".   Depending on the day this can be wonderful junk from their farms or it could be just produce and junk from their wives closets.   If you don't go you just might miss the buy of the century!
To be honest I really didn't want to go yesterday.   Our weekend was so busy and I had so many things I wanted/needed to do that standing around all morning at a sale was the last thing on my mind.    Of course Keith talked me into it when he reminded me I just might find something for my house!   Those words will make me head out no matter what I leave behind! HA
For the first time in a long time the "junk" was pretty good.   Keith and I both picked out things we thought we couldn't live without and stood around waiting for them to sell.    The first thing Keith bought was seven bales of straw for our farm animals "beds".    Normally this wouldn't have been any big deal but our pick-up is acting up so we had brought our van.   At first he was going to go home and get the truck but I told him to just load it in the van and take it home while I wait on the other things to sell.   I wish you could have seen him loading that van...He had straw everywhere!!!!   It was really funny because I was standing by some young man and he said, "Would you look at that man loading that hay into that new van!"  I said, "Yeah and it's MY VAN he's loading it in!"   He was so embarrassed and started apologizing and all I could do was laugh!   I'm telling you gals, we're just ole farm people!!!!
My friend Rhenda had told us there was going to be another auction at 1:00 so we decided to go to it too.   Before Keith left with the straw he had told my uncle we would meet him for lunch and then we would all go to the second auction together.    I knew we would be cutting it close (And he had told Uncle Johnny to meet us at noon) so I tried to call him to tell him just meet Johnny and I would ride into town with Rhenda.  Imagine how I felt when a woman answered his cell phone!   Yep, in the bright sunlight I couldn't see the numbers and had dialed my friend Betty!   She must have thought I was nuts....I couldn't hear for the auctioneer and I was so surprised over a woman answering all I could do was stammer around! HA   Sorry Betty!!!!!
At the Sale Barn I was able to pick up several neat things.....An old organ book (From the 1800's) for Keith, an old Folger's coffee can,  and a small wooden chair....The chair was in pieces and when Keith gets it back together we'll paint it black and hang it off the wall!   I've been wanting one of those forever!!!!
After a quick lunch we headed for the second sale.   I have never been to a Sheriff's auction and this one was so sad.....The contents and a beautiful old house on four acres at the edge of town was being auctioned off all because the heirs were fighting!   Can you imagine stealing from your own parents????   That what these children were doing until the law stepped in!   I could think of nothing sadder than a sheriff standing at the door of my home and auctioning it off all because my kids were so selfish!!!!
I'm sure most of the antiques had been taken out of the house prier to the sale but there were still some good things there.   Keith and I both had our eye on several things but first the house had to be auctioned off.  (I never want to go to one of those sales again!!!  SO SAD!!)  As we were standing there watching the price climb higher and higher I was reminded what a wonderful town we live in and how blessed we are to have such good friends....My old boss came up and asked me if I wanted it and said if I did he'd get for me!   While he might have been kidding I know I had said, "Yes I do!" my name would have been on that deed when we left!  How many people can say that about their old bosses???
Later on in the day I was once again reminded of what good friends we have....Keith had bought a box of junk and we were standing there going through it when I realized the little tables I wanted were being auctioned off.   These tables were clear on the other side of the land and I about broke my neck getting through the crowd to get my bid in.   Well, I got the tables (And a little stool too) and wouldn't you know it...I didn't know our auction  number!!!!   Most of our auctioneers know me (Yes, I go to that many auctions!) but naturally this one didn't.   There I stood, with no way of paying for my purchase!   I was trying to get Keith's attention across the yard when the guy next to me said, "Put it on my number and I'll pay for it!"   Another friend from the Sale Barn to my rescue!!!!
My wooden tables are now out in Keith's shop getting some work done to them.    Both are small kitchen tables and one is really different....The top has two boards with a hinge between them.   When you lift the board it opens to a big storage space....Just perfect for storing silverware or table cloths!!!   The other one is a little drop-leaf table.   Great for those that have small kitchens or when you don't want a big table all the time.
Keith's junk box held a wonderful treasure but I'm afraid that story is going to have to wait until another day.   At this point I'm still trying to catch up from being gone all day yesterday so I have to get busy.    I hope everyone is having a great day.   Until tomorrow........Fall  Blessings, Sher

Hi , another great blog and those treasures you both got. Looks to like you have treasures in friends as well . But you know it takes one to know one so I think they could say the same about you folks. One can just tell where friendship are.

That is sad about the kids taking from their folks, very sad. House gone, things gone now family gone. Not worth any materials things on this earth.
