Are you Listening?
|
Are you listening? Do you hear it? It's the sound of the leaves blowing off the tree in our front yard and slowly drifting to the ground! For weeks Fall has been coming to the farm but it wasn't until this morning that we felt like it was finally here! This morning the wind is blowing, it's raining and there is just a nip in the air one knows it has truly found us. For those of you who follow my PictureTrail you know that yesterday I posted some photo's on how things look around our old farm. In just one short day those photo's are outdated! How fast the color of the leaves changed over-night and how bare some of the trees now look. As soon as it quits raining I'll run out and snap a few more pictures so you can see for yourself.
I hope that everyone has had a wonderful weekend around your homestead? Ours as been such a busy one. It all started Friday when Keith and I went to Iola for groceries. We spent a wonderful day hitting all the "treasure stores" and I'm feeling so snug with all we bought.....Not only did we buy another big old wooden box (Which is now sitting on my kitchen counter filled with cooking utensils.) but I found even more wonderful old pictures of people who I lovingly refer to as my "instant ancestors"! I know my older boys think I'm nuts but my heart sings when I look at all these wonderful people. One can't help but wonder what their lives were like and did they love their old farms as much as we love ours. While their real ancestors have chosen not to keep their pictures, this ole farmgal loves having them scattered around her home. (Oh, the photo you see on my PictureTrail really is my great-grandparents!)
As we were driving home and talking about what a great day we had I suddenly had this great idea....Let's go home, pack some clothes, pick the little ones up from school and go to Topeka and spend the night! Keith is one of these people who loves to do things on the spur of the moment so I didn't have to suggest it twice! HA I swear I have never packed so fast in my life! While I was taking care of our clothes, Keith ran out and took care of all the outside animals. Within a few minutes we were heading to town to pick up the little ones.
We had so much fun in Topeka. Not only did we pick up all the things we were needing but we hit all the garage sales bright and early. I think everyone had decided to have their "end of the season" yard sales this weekend because we really got some great buys! Each one of us came home with tons of goodies....Believe it or not, I actually got some antiques for pennies!!!! Of course I still haven't found a place for everything but that will come with time.
I had planned to start a new Needle Punch pattern today but those plans are put on hold until tomorrow....After a quick trip to town this morning (Hated to get out in the rain but we wanted to sign Drew up for "Boys Night Out" at our Rec. Center) I will now fly around and get the house picked up and then this evening I'll be heading to town for the children's Parent/Teachers Conferences. Thankfully I had a quick supper planned so that will be one less thing for me to do when I get home!
So, on that note I best sign off and get to work. I hope your all having a gorgeous day and your feeling the Fall in the air too! Blessings! Sher |
