Friday at Last!
|
Good Morning Everyone!
It's another dark day here on the farm but the sun is trying to peek through the clouds so I know we're going to have the hot, sunny day that has been predicted. I let the wash go yesterday because it stayed dark until late in the afternoon so today it will have to be done. I'm so thankful today is Friday. Our little ones are out of school Monday so that means we have a three day weekend ahead of us! Drew will have to work on a book report but the rest of three days are ours! I hope to get tons done and the kids are already planning on toys they want me to pull out that they haven't played with for awhile! HA
I got around yesterday and finished the little Halloween pinkeep I had started. I make several pinkeeps a week and this is the first time I've ever been disappointed in one. I'm really not sure why either. It just seems like I had trouble with it from the start. It is stitched on 28 ct. light green linen and I used the colors black and burnt orange for the actual stitching. Once it was done I gave it a good tea/coffee bath and that toned it down but it still didn't look quite like I had it pictured. The kids liked it so I guess that's all that counts. It's now displayed by my big fat pumpkin on Keith's antique wooden box.
While I've been busy stitching, Keith has been working out in our cabin. He finally got the ceiling in the living room and got it all insulated. I really hated to see that ceiling go in.....I loved the look of those open beams. However, it makes it to hard to heat or cool with the ceilings open like that so we didn't have much choice but to enclose it. I'm hoping we'll run to Iola sometime this weekend so we can buy the paint and get that much more done. I know he's getting tired of working on it so I'm sure he'll really be glad to see it finished.
I wish this weather would turn off cool so we could do some serious cooking. I know each of you have noticed how expensive groceries are getting. I never walk into the grocery store anymore without seeing a rise in prices on the things I normally buy. Maybe it's just a few cent rise but when this is happening weekly, it's really adding up. I told Keith the time has came to drag out all my old cookbooks and recipes from the 70's. Those recipes always seemed to use fewer, less expensive ingredients than those we see in cookbooks today. So, when Keith gets the cabin done we are going to sit down and make a menu of things to cook that don't cost an arm and leg. By being home full time there is no sense why I can't stick to it and feed this family on less money.
Well, it's time to get that laundry started. I have to make a quick trip to town to mail a package to my oldest daughter (She's having some nasty dental work done today and needs a little "thinking of you" from her Mom! HA) and then I've got to go buy "Gummie Bears" and take them to my youngest daughter at school.....They got to wear their pj's to school today and will have movies and snacks this afternoon. So, it's time to get in gear. Everyone have a safe and happy wekend. Fall Blessings, Sher |
