Old Crow Farm
2006-Feb-25
Our News!
I know for several weeks I have "hinted" that there is something going on around Old Crow Farm.  At last I can tell all of you about it.......For years Keith and I have talked about building a little cabin in the pasture back of our home.   It would be a place for all of us to get away from the daily routine of life and a place for the little ones to be while we were working in our flower gardens.   Several weeks ago at our local Sale Barn, Keith had the chance to pick a load of used lumber.  (Remember, we are a family who does everything on a shoe-string budget!)  He came home and told me "Happy Valentine's Day...Your finally going to get your cabin!"  That was the start of days of sitting down with paper and pen in hand and doing some hard figuring to see if we really could make this dream come true.
A week later when he picked up another load of lumber we knew the time had came...By watching sales we could actually fulfill another dream on our old farm.   The first thing we had to do was apply for a zoning permit.   I really worried about this but it turned out to be the easiest part of the whole adventure.   With our property lines so far from where we were doing the actual building, this only took a matter of minutes to obtain.  (Keith spent more time drawing it out than it did for the permit to be issued!)
Since starting this little project our weather has turned off cold.   It's really been hard for Keith because he is someone who likes to get out there and get started and right now it's just to darn cold for that.   Well, it should be to cold...He's out there working on it as I write.  (I really need to snap a picture of him all bundled up trying to lay that foundation out!)   Everyone keeps asking when he'll have it finished and he keeps replying May.   Last night he wasn't quite so sure of that date as every muscle in his body was aching!   This is one project that he's going to have to take one day at a time!!!!
Several months ago we took the little ones to the original "Little House on the Prairie" in Independence, Ks..   Ever since Jeni has talked about how she wanted her own little house.   As Keith started laying it out they suddenly decided they had the perfect name for this little "cabin"...Our own "Little House on the Prairie!   Well, it's definitely little {16'X21') and it definitely looks out over the Kansas prairie so I guess they have came up with a fitting name.     We hope you'll join us as we work on this little cabin and watch it go up, picture by picture!   Blessings, Sher

This is going to be so much fun for we readers to 'watch' going up. I can't wait to see the finished little cabin - LOL!

We built a little cabin on our other property. You can see it in some of my first (archived) blog entries. I can't quite remember, but I think ours is about 18x18'. Tiny, plus a half loft, and a porch.
