Stocking our Pantry
Good Evening!
Since I love to read everyone's blogs that talk about their pantry and how they are "stocking up" for winter I thought that I might as well add our two cents worth and what we were doing.   Several weeks ago I wrote how we're trying to get down to shopping once a month and in order to do this, I have been buying groceries like crazy!   Living in a little tiny house (Ok, I know your all tired of hearing about my little house but I swear girls, it's TINY!!) having a nice sized pantry is almost impossible.   I have several kitchen cabinets that I keep groceries in as well as two old cabinets in our family room.   Since this wouldn't hold my "stock pile" I had to get creative.   I finally decided the old primitive cabinet in our family room that held family pictures would be turned into another food pantry!....I'm sure my ancestors would approve since they lived through some tough times themselves!
In stocking my pantry, I tried to think of the foods we really use a lot of and those that will allow me to cook the kind of meals we want or if times get really tight, to make nourishing meals out of a few ingredients.   Now to list what all is in our pantry:

Flour, Sugar, Powder Sugar, Brown Sugar, Bisquick, Jelly, Canned green beans, Canned Corn, Pork & Beans, Canned tomatoes, Canned Tomato Sauce, Canned tomato juice, Ketchup, Honey, Macaroni, Spaghetti Sauce, Spaghetti, Angel Hair Pasta, Rice, Mushrooms, Canned soups, canned Pumpkin, Olives, Oil (Vegetable, Crisco, Olive, ect..) jello, pudding mixes, oatmeal, corn starch, Salt & Pepper, a zillion spices, Vanilla, onions, garlic bulbs and jars of minced garlic, Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Peanut Butter, Yeast, Pecans, Chocolate Chips, Butterscotch Chips, Coconut, juice, tea, coffee,  ect...

In our two refrigerators you'll find:

Butter, Eggs, Ingredients to fix tossed salads, Milk, cheese (Cream Cheese, Cheddar, Mozzarella, Swiss, American, ect..) Half & Half, Green Peppers, Tortilla shells, hot dogs,  and tons of other things.

The Deep freezes hold:

Chicken. Ground Beef, Pork, Ham, Steak, Bacon, Shrimp, Roast, Pepperoni, Stew Meat, Soup Meat, Sausage, Blueberries, Strawberries, Ice Cream, frozen vegetables, French Fries, tater tots, frozen juice, Cool Whip, ect.....

How long would all of this food last.   Well, I suppose I could feed our family "normally" for about a month and a half but if things are super tight (Meaning NO FOOD to be bought) we could probably go three months.   I pray this day never comes but if it does, as with other things in life, I'm hope I'm some what prepared.
Now that you know what's in our pantry, my next posting will be how we cook and eat here on Old Crow Farm.   Stayed tuned..........Blessings, Sher

Sher, I just finished reading how you've stocked up on foodstuffs, etc. for your pantry. I guess I'm very lucky since I live 9/10 ths. of a mile from Wanamaker Road, which means Super Walmart is about 2 1/2 miles from us. Even with a good-sized fridge and one freezer, we don't stock up too much since, for whatever reason, our area tends to lose power more than others. And I don't want to take the chance of losing all of that food.

I don't think my house is much larger than yours but there's just the two of us......and the six cats.....so we don't need much room. BUT -- we do have a basement. And that makes a huge difference.

I know you're very busy but I wish you'd post more often. I'm really getting into reading your blog and now I'm excited to see you post about what you're cooking and eating.

Do you think you can ever talk Betty into coming up to Topeka and going to the hook-in at Judy's some month? I'd like to run into you at some place other than Lenexa!

We took a large chunk or our tex incentive check, and STOCKED UP! LOL We have a large pantry, a standing freezer (full), and an extra refrigerator with top freezer (also full), as well as our fridge in the kitchen. We are well stocked, but I would still like to buy some canned things, and at Save-A-Lot, we can get a flat of generic veggies, or tomato sauce for almost nothing. So we still expect to get those before fall.

We also have stocked up on toliet paper, medicines, diapers and wipes (we will soon be potty training though), lightbulbs, and detergents and cleaning supplies, etc.

I love having a fully stocked pantry so that we can simply shop from home, instead of going to the store all the time. At this time, we could probably live off our pantry for months if we didn't need milk (our 2 year old drinks alot!), and fresh produce though

We used to buy groceries once a month, but we find going back twice a month works better for us on breads, milk, and produce. Otherwise many things go to waste.

Thanks for sharing about your pantry with us!!

God's Blessings,
Amy Jo

Hi Sher, So glad to read about your stocked pantry and it sounds like you're ready for whatever meal you'd like to make without having to run to the grocers. What a huge savings of time and gas, great work dear friend!

Now I can't wait to read about your planned meals and how this system works out for ya! Thanks for sharing!

Love, Sher (NY)

PS. Hope there's ingredients for making your yummy "gooey corn" in the pantry for when the cooler weather comes around! M-mm can't wait for that either!!!!! Ha! Ü
