Old Crow Farm

Sunday Morning
Good Morning!
The sun is shining brightly here on Old Crow Farm.   There's such a heavy dew this morning that it honestly looks like snow is covering the grass.   I read somewhere dew is a sign of a warm day so looks like we're in for a hot one.   Another one of those days when we'll be stuck in the house!   It seems our whole summer has either been super hot weather or rain.   Gotta love Kansas!!!!
I know in my last note I was complaining about all the bad luck we've been having.   I feel quilty because I know compared to what some people are going through (Sickness, loss of jobs, foreclosures, ect..) our life is really good.   However, after having to calling the water company on Thursday (They turned everyone's rural water off just as people were starting supper that evening!) I decided I had enough.   After all, in one week I had called the electric company, the phone company and then the water company!!!!     It was time to get away.   After a quick discussion we decided we were heading for Topeka for a day of yard sailing and just plain having fun the next day.
If there is one thing I love girls it's yard sailing.   It's always so much fun to see what treasure we'll come home with and Friday turned out to be a wonderful day!   We drove through rain all the way there and just knew the yard sales were going to be far and few between.   Well, we were right about that but those we found were wonderful!!!!   I guess everyone is cleaning their kids closets and getting ready to buy this years school clothes because we found one yard sale that had the most wonderful young girl clothes you've ever seen!   I came home with a whole clothes basket full (I know this to be true because they are piled in one waiting to be washed! HA) for Jeni and they cost me a whopping $8.00!!!!   I kid you not, these clothes look like I picked them up in the mall!!!!   Jeni is thrilled and feels she'll be the best dressed kid in school, even they aren't "new"!
One of the nicest yard sales we hit was at a million dollar home (Ok, it had over 7,000 square feet and sat on 35 acres so I'm sure it was closer to three million!!) that had just been sold!   They were getting ready to build a new home on more land so they were selling almost everything they owned!   At this sale I bought a wonderful old sewing machine that was not only in it's cabinet but had the original wooden cover!!!!  Wanna see????
The gal selling said she had used it in her home but the time had came to let it go.    She was the sweetest person and as we were loading it in the truck she remarked that they used to have a Ford pick-up just like ours and she bet her husband had something we'd like to have.   About that time he came home and he went over and got a Ford "bed extender".   Keith has wanted one forever and couldn't believe it when the guy said he would sell it for $10!!!!!  Needless to say, we both felt we'd hit the jack-pot at that sale!
Of course we couldn't go to Topeka and not hit some stores too!   I made a quick stop at Hobby Lobby and came out with almost $50 worth of DMC floss!   I know winter will soon be here and I wanted to make SURE I had every color and tons of it before the cold winds blow! HA   On days like today you have to wonder if we'll ever see cold weather again!!!!
So, while last week I was whining about our "run of bad luck", this week I'm feeling blessed because we were able to get out and have a fun day with nothing pressing needing done at home!   I guess this is just life and we have to expect the bad with the good.    While none of us like the bad, without it, it wouldn't be life!    May this week be a "good" one for you and all your weeks after.   Blessings, Sher

That sewing machine is a TREASURE! You always get the good deals. Just keep your house locked because it might come up missing. (Just joking) But it is really a cool thing. When are you gonna use it? LOL? marti
