Toaster/Convection/Oven Question?????
Summer has definitely moved into Kansas and with it has came the oppressive heat we're known for!   Even though it's super hot I still like to fix my family large meals and in going through my menu's I've discovered that most of those meals call for the oven.   Now on days you can verily breath, the last thing I want to do is heat this house up with an oven!!!!   I use my many crock pots for the things I can but there are something's (cookies, cakes, muffins, ect..) that it just won't work on.
That brings me to my question of the day....How many of you have the newer Toaster/Convection/Ovens????   I have looked at them in Wal-Mart and my Sweetie has been pricing them in stores in Wisconsin.    We have pretty well picked out the one we want (One that will hold a roasting hen and has a dial for the controls) but before shelling out the money I need to know if they are REALLY worth it!    Can you really bake in them or are they just good for "toasting" and heating up?????   I live in a little tiny house so storage is going to be a problem too.   I don't mind making room for something if works and will save me the expense of heating a large oven and heating my house up.
If any of you have one, I would really appreciate you telling me what you think of it and if it's worth the money.  Thanks so much!   Hugs, Sher

I live in southern Louisiana, you aient been hot untill you come down here, LOL. Anyway, I feel your pain about heating up your house. I live in a much older home that is lacking in insulation, so my kitchen is as hot inside sometimes as outside. So I do almost all of my summer cooking with electricity. I have an electric skillet, electric fryer, crockpot, microwave rice cooker (which makes perfect rice everytime, cost like $5 at walmart), and a toaster oven. I barely use the stove or the oven during the summer. For larger meals I have a large roaster cooker. I use that to cook down large amounts of veggies like the okra and corn I did last week and larger roast and such. As for the toaster oven, if you get a big enough one, you can cook anything in it. I bake biscuits, cakes, casseroles, you name it. I love my appliances during the summer. It beats the heat wonderfully. Hope this helps a little. I suggest that you invest in a toaster oven. As for storage, I made covers for all my appliances and have them sitting on a shelf in my utility room. .............Kitty

I love our toaster oven. it is only a toaster oven, but I do most of my baking in it year round (more for energy savings than anything else). I would guess that as my family grows, we will need to do more than 6 muffins or one pot pie at a time, but for now, it works nicely.

Hey Sher, I have one and love it. It works great...uses up to a 9 x 13 inch pan and doesn't heat up the kitchen greatly in the summer. Mine is a toaster/convection oven by Black and Decker. The only problem is the fact that it takes up valuable counter space. I know you don't have a lot of space and neither do I. But mine is well worth it. My friend has one like mine and she uses hers constantly for everything from cookies to cakes to meats, etc. So good luck with your decision. marti
