Heat, a Recipe and Summer News

Posted on 2009-Jun-30 at 09:36

    Once again morning has came to "Old Crow Farm" bring the heat with it.    While blessed with a break in the humidity since Saturday evening, it's till to hot for my liking.     I look out my window at my flower gardens that so desperately need weeding and then decided to turn my head the other way.~~~It's not worth having a 'clean' garden if it means being out in that heat.
      Being stuck in the house does have it's advantages....It's the perfect time to try out some new recipes.    For weeks I've been wanting to try out a recipe called "Spinach Shrimp Fettuccine" and yet for some reason kept putting it off.   I finally decided yesterday was the day it was going on the menu.    I knew when I started it the two little ones wouldn't eat it so decided to grill them shrimp.   This way we would all be happy.
      When I cook I try never to spend more than $5 on meat for any given meal.  (Okay, truth be told, I try to keep the whole meal under $5.00!)   This recipe stretched the budget but the raves I got from Keith were worth it.   I have to admit, served with a crusty bread it looked like a meal you would have ordered in a high dollar restaurant.    We have decided we'll definitely be doing it again and I decided to share it in case some of you would like to try it too.

                                            Spinach Shrimp Fettuccine

1# uncooked Fettuccine                                                 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
1 pkg. (6 oz.) baby spinach                                           1/2 t. Italian Seasoning
4 garlic cloves, minced                                                  1/4 t. salt
2 T. Olive Oil                                                                    1/4 Cup Parmesan Cheese, shredded
1# uncooked shrimp

      Cook Fettuccine.   While cooking~~In a large skillet sauté the spinach & garlic in oil for 2 minutes or until spinach begins to wilt.     Add shrimp, tomatoes, Italian Seasoning & salt, sauté for 2-3 minutes or until shrimp turns pink.    Drain Fettuccine & add to skillet, toss to coat.    Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.  8 Servings.

       Like most of you, we too are getting ready for our Fourth of July party.    We've done this for the past thirteen years and for the first time ever, it's not being held on the Fourth.   My youngest sister is coming in from Louisiana and won't be in until the evening of the Fourth so we've decided to hold it on the fifth.   Even though that gives me an extra day to get ready,  I'm definitely going to need it.    The last I heard there is a chance of rain on the Fourth so that means it's a "wait & see" situation. ~~~ Will it cool down enough to be held outdoors (Therefore meaning we'll have to wait until the last minute to put the tent and tables up) or will we all be crammed in this little house?   If it's the least bit hot, it's being held inside.   We'll have four people here over 82 years of age and two of them have bad hearts.    I'm not taking any chances with anyone's health just because it means we'll be stacked on top of one another!!!!
     We're also down to a little over two weeks until our son gets married.   Are we ready?   Absolutely NOT!!!!   Drew still hasn't been fitted for his tux and I don't have a dress!   Nothing like waiting until the last minute!   I'll be so glad when it's over and my life is mine again.
      Last Friday Jeni had another dental appointment in Topeka so we got to hit a few more yard sales.   Remember how I said I would find the perfect rug for our enclosed deck?    Well, Friday I found it!   I know we'll probably only get one season out of it but for $3 I can afford to get a new one next year!   See why I love yard sales so much???
      Well girls, it's time to fix my crew some breakfast so I best head for the kitchen.   I hope your all enjoying your summer and staying cool.   Hugs, Sher

We're At Triple Digits~~~~

Posted on 2009-Jun-23 at 04:01

   Oh my gosh, is it ever HOT in our neck of the woods!    This afternoon we hit triple digits and while tomorrow is suppose to be a few degrees cooler, it doesn't show any sign of letting up for over a week.   Normally by this time of day our little ones would have been in the pool at least once but not today.   While our pool gets a little shade early of a morning by afternoon we're in full sun.   No way can they go out there now.
     So, at this point we are all stuck in the house....Or the "cave" as Keith prefers to call it since he think it's that dark in here.    To bad, there is no way I'm having those blinds open and the sun pouring in.   That poor air conditioner verily shuts off the way it is, if the sun was streaming in it never would! ~~~ Not to mention I would have an electric bill I'd never be able to pay.
     Yesterday while in town I picked up a couple of six packs of flowers that had been marked down to $1.00 each and they were really needing planted.   I knew I could never take the heat so I decided they were going in pots and I'd plant them in the coolness of this house.   I covered the kitchen table with newspapers and while I had dirt everywhere, my plants are now planted and I didn't die planting them!HA
     Girls, if there is one thing I could talk each of you into buying it would be one of the little toaster ovens.   Not the super small ones but one that is big enough to actually bake in.   We bought ours last Summer when it was so hot and I swear I have almost wore it out with use.~~  This morning I let Jeni take a Chocolate Cake Mix and make it into two small cakes.  (A large pan is to big for the oven.)  One            will be used tonight for supper with vanilla ice cream and a chocolate sauce and the other one will be for tomorrow nights supper.   { We'll probably frost it.}    We are now baking  Lasagna in it.   I really hated the thought of doing something so 'heavy' on such a hot night but Keith loves it and that's what he wanted so I said I'd do it.
       Jeni and I have spent the better part of our day pouring over recipes.    It's so nice to have a daughter who likes to cook and she sure has her own ideas about what we should fix....The cake and chocolate sauce were her idea! HA   Tomorrow we're planning on Spinach Parmesan Linguine.   For some reason that really sounds good to me.
      Well, it's time to do our family reading and then I'll finish supper up....I love eating early so the evening is free.    Everyone please stay as cool as possible...People are dying from this heat!  Hugs, Sher

Lessons of Life

Posted on 2009-Jun-22 at 06:22

      Yesterday on my way home from my parents, Jeni and I picked up our local newspaper.   ( We live in a small town so this little paper only comes out twice  a week.)   Last night after my young'uns were all in bed I finally had the time to sit down and read it.
        There was a small article how our local food pantry/clothing store was in need of food now that Summer is here and children are out of school.   I'm ashamed to admit this~~~ While I have gave both food and money to this store I have never been in it.  (I always gave when others were collecting.)     While we certainly aren't rich we have been Blessed more than we deserve and we have always had a full pantry.   I decided it was time to pay back some of these Blessings.
       Bright and early this morning before the heat rolled in, Jeni and I went shopping.    I explained to her how others weren't as fortunate as we are and how we needed to buy things that a Mother/Father could use to feed their family.    Within minutes of being in that store she caught on and together we quickly filled up a grocery cart, buying everything from food to paper products.
       We then went down to the store and had a humbling experience.      The store building has been donated from one of our local banks (God Bless Johnny!) and I was amazed how it was laid out.   Not only was it neat and clean but clothing was divided into "sizes" so a person knew just where to go to find what their family needed.   You honestly felt as though you were in a real clothing store!
       The food part was right behind the counter and my heart sank when I saw how little was on the shelf.   Years ago I worked for an agency that provided food for those in need and we always just filled up bags with food according to the number in the family.    My sister had been in this store at Christmas when a family came in and she said they first checked to see if they had gotten anything in the last six months and then they were given a choice of a few canned goods.     Now I'm not sure it's still ran this way but with as many people out of work and on unemployment it probably is.    And for no more food than they had on hand, I can see why they have to do this.
       I'm sure the twenty plus sacks we brought in helped but I also know it didn't make near the dent that was needed.    Coming home Keith and I sat down and discussed what we can do to help.    From now on, each time we go to Topeka, we'll be buying for us and others.    If everyone would just spend a few dollars a week, in no time at all the shelves would be full and families would have the help they so desperately need in these trying times.    I urge you to check your food banks to see what you too can do.    Hugs, Sher

Father's Day 2009

Posted on 2009-Jun-22 at 03:50

      Yesterday was Father's Day and my day started off early getting a roast in the crock pot so Keith could have his favorite meal for lunch.      Once I got it started, Jeni & I loaded up and headed to my parents farm.
       Driving along we had the radio playing and there was a little commentary for Fathers...."A father heard his little boy praying that he would be just like his Daddy when he grew up.   That evening the father prayed he'd be half the man his little boy thought he was."     I was reminded of my father.     While not a dad to show emotion to us girls, he's Daddy.    Solid, strong, always there and always fair and honest.   At 83 (He'll be 84 in August) his health is failing.    It was so noticeable when we arrived at the farm.   Once he would have bound out of his chair and came into the kitchen to talk.   Now he verily lifts his head to acknowledge we're there.     While I know he doesn't feel good I feel part of his problem is depression.   Always one to be out and going he's now stuck at home.    It breaks my heart and we can only pray with rest and the right diet (Found Mom wasn't giving him enough water....He's down to 1500 cc's and the poor guy was getting less than 500....Again, she's elderly and didn't understand.) he'll some how or other be able to regain some of his strength.
       As the morning wore on he did kind of perk up and even came out to the table so he could hear the story I was telling about the "Trooper" who called wanting a donation for the widow of police officers.   Dad rolled when he heard how I gave that stupid man a tongue lashing for starting his call out, "Mrs. So-So, this is Trooper So-So.   Now I'm sure you know that nothing is wrong!".....Nothing WRONG....I have elderly parents, eight kids, five grand kids and you start a phone call of with "This is Trooper So-So"????  I'll bet that man never calls again.   Daddy said I got worked up just telling the story, he can imagine what I must have been like to the man! HA    It was so to see him laugh and act like his old self.
     Tomorrow my Mom has an appointment to have her hair done.    If Dad friend Bob doesn't come out, either Keith or I will be going over to stay with him.    I know he hates us being there (A sign that we don't want to leave him alone) but he never left us girls home alone when we were young and we're not going to leave him or Mom either.
     As hard as this is on my parents (It's hard on Mom trying to take care of him) it's not near as hard as the thought of giving him up.   So today we'll be thankful Father's Day 2009 found Daddy still with us and we'll continue to pray we'll have many more years with him and Mom.   Sher

Another Hot Monday!

Posted on 2009-Jun-15 at 12:45

Good Morning!
     The sun is shining and it's another hot morning on the farm.    From the sounds of the weatherman, all of this is going to change....Strong storms are expected later on today.    I don't know why this should come as any surprise.   It seems like all it does anymore is rain!   This weekend we spent HOURS working on our yard.   Everything looked so good and then the rain moved in.   Now it looks as though we don't own a lawn mower!   I'm not kidding Girls, all the work we did was for nothing.   Grass is right back where it was!
      And then there's my flowers.   Honestly, I have worked hours in those beds and if you would see them this morning you would say I haven't touched them all year.    Not only do we have lots of grass and weeds but all of this rain and wind has really paid havoc on my hollyhocks.   Some of them are laying on their sides and others look like they could topple.   This happens every year and every years it makes me sick.   Oh well, I'm going to enjoy the ones that are standing.
      Sam & Renee both had friends getting married this past weekend so Sam went to Colorado and Renee went to northern NE..   Sam had called on his way home yesterday and then later on that evening Renee called me.    Sounds like she's getting to that stage where she's not big enough for maternity clothes but to big for her regular ones.    Ole Mom here couldn't stand it~~~I just had to order her a couple of maternity outfits! HA    I'm sure they will be way to big for her now but she will grow into them.    I've started a little box (Baby clothes, baby books, ect..) to give to her when they come home for Seth & Codi's wedding so I'll just add these clothes to it.  {Yes, I'm buying all this now so I won't have to pay postage to send it! HA)     I'm having so much fun filling this box and the minute we find out if it's a boy or girl, heaven help the check book.
     Tomorrow we have to take Jeni back to the doctor for a check-up on her nose and Wed. Drew has a little friend coming out to play.    Other than that, we are free until next week when we have to take Jeni back to the dentist.    (Unless Daddy takes another turn for the worse...He's not doing as well as we'd hoped.)    We really need some lazy days to catch up on all the fun things that are going on around here.  (Yes, Girls, I updated my "girls blog" so you can see what I've been doing.)   I guess maybe if we get more rain this afternoon I can work on some of them.
     One thing we have been doing around here is working with the two little ones to teach them to cook.   While both love helping, it's Drew who does the best.   Poor Jeni will always have issues with her hands (She has no control over them and they are into anything and everything.) and it makes it hard to cook with her.    They both love doing it and since it's helping with their math [fractions] I'll continue to do it even if it does slow me down.    This morning Drew made fried sausage patties and pancakes for breakfast.   This evening Jeni will be working on Italian Spaghetti.
    Well Girls, I want to catch the noon news to see what this weather is going to do and then it's back to work.   Hope everyone is staying safe and cool.   Hugs, Sher

~~Another Week is Flying By~~

Posted on 2009-Jun-11 at 06:46

    It seems like only yesterday I was remarking how we are spending more and more time on our little deck.   I should have known I would eat those words!   The past few days we've been so busy I've verily had the time to take Latte out  to do her business.    A quick update........

     Friday was Jeni's dental appointment in Topeka so we left early and took in a few yard sales.    Okay, a "few" isn't exactly true....So many areas were having their "city block sales" that we felt like we were in 'Yard Sale Heaven'.   And the best part was, we could walk from sale to sale without even moving the car!!!!   We came home with so many wonderful things, including two dirt bikes for the kids.    One thing we didn't get was a rug for the deck.   Not because we didn't find one but rather I didn't like the color.   Yeah, I know...It's getting pretty bad when a person can be picky about finding the right 'color' of something at a yard sale! HA    And remember how I said we would be buying our annual expensive "toy" for the pool?    Well, we really lucked out there.    We got a brand new raft with oars and pump for $5!!!   Talk about a steal that saved us tons of money!
     After the dental appointment we headed for our monthly "Sam's Club Run".    By this time we were all exhausted but I still managed to get everything on my list and more.    It's so nice having two refrigerators and all the deep freezes full of food.   Makes cooking so much easier!
      Saturday Seth and one of his old college friends came for lunch and helped out around the farm.    Sunday we had planned to spend the day doing nothing since Jeni was to have surgery on her nose bright and early Monday morning.   Around noon my sister called saying Daddy was back in the hospital....Around his heart had filled up with fluid and he was having shortness of breath.    The doctors had him stabilized and they thought he was going to be okay but we still felt one of us should be with him on Monday in case things changed.    Sindy had a meeting at work and I had Jeni's surgery.   Thankfully my oldest daughter and her guy came down and stayed with him.
      Sunday night we had another storm and we ended up being up all night.   By the time we got to that hospital I was a nervous wreck from worry over Jeni and Daddy and from lack of sleep.    Thankfully Jeni came through the surgery just fine.   The doctor said she never would have quit having nose bleeds on her own and he's not even sure this will work.   For now we can only pray.
     Tuesday we stayed home (My sister was meeting with the doctor over Daddy) and I'm so thankful we did.   We had a terrible wind/rain storm come through.~~~ Had two and half inches of rain in twenty minutes and lost power!   What I didn't know was my mother was coming home from the hospital and got caught in this mess.   She said that car was all over the road and she was afraid to pull over for fear it would flip.   By the time she got home she said she just sat down and cried.    I had tried to call her when the storm hit to see if she was home and was praying she had stayed at the hospital until it passed.   (Dad said the hospital staff  moved them to the hall twice.)
     Daddy came home from the hospital yesterday and we've got a long road ahead of us.   They have cut his liquid in-take waaaaayyyyyy down and taken him completely off salt.   I know he'll never stick to this and he's going to make Mom miserable.   I swear, having elderly parents is worse than having teenagers.
     Today I helped Keith work on an area of our farm were in the process of cleaning up.   I think we could have picked a cooler day to do it...Almost had a heat stroke out there!    It's looking 100% better and hopefully by tomorrow evening we'll have it completely done....Just in time for more rain to move in! GROAN
    Last post someone asked about the wool I had dyed for my newest hooking project.   Here's a quick peek at how it's hooking up............
     Don't you just love the colors???   There so different from what I usually hook with.
     Well, night is starting to fall here on the farm so I think I'll get everyone bathed and then I can head to bed and finish up a book I started earlier this week.   I pray everyone is having a great week and your all staying safe and avoiding the storms.   Blessings, Sher

~~ A Wonderful Weekend ~~

Posted on 2009-Jun-1 at 11:48

Good Morning Girls!
     Have you ever had one of those weekends that you wish  would never end?   That's exactly the kind we've had this weekend.    It's not that we did anything super fun mind you but rather is was so slow and relaxing it was wonderful.   Oh, there was plenty of work that got done .......Our Latte has learned to climb the steps to the pool and even with the gate closed she's learned to climb out on the ledge and get inside the deck.    Out came the lattice and Keith soon stopped that little problem!    Naturally there was tons of mowing to be done (Nasty weather predicted for tomorrow) and all the usual house-work but for the most part it was just a slow, laid-back weekend.
     One of the things I got done this weekend was to finish up the heart shaped rug I had started for our deck.  (The edges aren't whipped stitched but the hooking is done.)     While this is definitely not the best rug I have ever hooked it turned out okay.
     Last month I had placed an order for some new rug hooking supplies and in it was a new little book for vintage colored dyes.   I couldn't stand having new recipes and not trying them out so out came the dye pots Saturday.   I tried three new recipes and each one of them turned out super....They all have the faded look of old wool.    Just perfect for hooking antique looking rugs.    Since I had the heart shaped rug completed I decided I'd go ahead and start another one.   I love how it's turning out.
     I also got around this weekend and started working on our enclosed deck.    Each winter it gets piled up and it takes me days to get it the way I want.    I did a little decorating Saturday and once we find a  area rug (Hoping to get that at a yard sale this weekend) I'll finish it up.    Keith and I are spending more and more time out there and it's sure is nicer now that is has the look of a real "room".
     Well girls, I want to post my weekly menu in another entry so I'll sign this off and work on it.    I hope your all enjoying sunshine and warm weather.     Until later........ Summer Blessings, Sher

~ SUN ~

Posted on 2009-May-29 at 10:20

Good Morning Girls!
     The sun is shining on Old Crow Farm this morning and after days of dark and dreary skies, it's a welcome sight!   From the sounds of the weatherman we had better enjoy it while we can...Sounds like we've got a week of rain coming starting Monday.  GROAN
      With sunny skies and warmer temperatures, it's back to the pool for our little ones.   I knew they had been spending a lot of time in there but it wasn't until we had these cooler days that I realized how much.   Drew was driving me crazy wanting to get in and there was just no way.    So, today they'll be in the pool and mom will be at the washing machine trying to keep up with all the suits and towels they'll be going through! HA
       Of course while I'm washing clothes, Keith will be busy mowing the yard.    It's hard to believe it was just Sunday that Seth and Nate helped him get it all caught up and it now looks as though we haven't mowed for weeks.   Just goes to show what even a little rain will do!....And we're not even going to talk about the weeds that have popped up in my flower gardens!!!!
       Warm weather has finally made me get  'grilling fever'.   I have some steak laid out and I think in a little while I'll put it in a marinate so Keith can grill it this evening.   To be honest, I'm not looking forward to this at all....I don't care for steak!   Keith thinks I'm nuts but I'd rather have a juicy ole hamburger any day over steak.    That's why I'm debating on what to do with this.   I found a new recipe for "Steak Burritos" that sounds yummy so I may change my mind.  (Just won't give Keith a chance to vote as I know what he'd vote for! HA)
       I got around yesterday and put together my latest NP project.   As I was sewing it into a little pillow I noticed my "punching" wasn't like normal.   It doesn't seem to be as tight as things I've made in the past.   I know my friend Betty has talked about changing her needle and I'm wondering if that could be the problem?   I'll try something else this afternoon but if I'm not pleased with it, I'll be ordering a new needle within the week.   Oh yes, I'll also be hooking this afternoon on my heart shaped rug.
      Well girls, it's time to get in gear.   I hope you are all enjoying sunny skies and getting tons done.  Until later...Hugs, Sher

A Summer Day

Posted on 2009-May-26 at 03:16

     Summer has hit Kansas in full force.    We have gone from rain to heat, back to rain and now cool weather and more rain!   Ya have to love it!    And along with changing weather has came sickness.   To those of you on my friendship blog you know I've been battling some weird stain of flu.    For weeks I have laid around and while I'm finally back on my feet, I'm sure not over it.   Keith says I sound like I have a bad cold and I do feel that way but I'm also terribly tired.   I feel like I could go to bed and sleep for a week.   Unfortunately life isn't going to allow that to happen...Although I have been doing my fair share of laying around!

      I hope everyone has had a wonderful, safe Memorial Day weekend.    Ours was quiet until Sunday....We got a call from Seth that he and Codi were on their way home and they were bring an old high school/college friend.   Seth also informed me he was dragging his laundry along and was hoping I could get it done before they went back! HA   (Which I did!)      Thankfully I had a large roast in the crock pot so I quickly threw together a Cherry Cobbler, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans and cole slaw for a quick lunch.   By the time they walked through the door the meal was on the table.   The minute those boys ate they ran out the door, grabbed lawn mowers and weed eaters and started in our yard.    Within hours they had hit everything Keith hadn't had time to get to!   I tell you Girls, they are keepers!!!!    After the work was done we all had Cherry Cobbler and vanilla ice cream and Root Beer Floats.   After eating again the boys headed for the pool and spent the last hour of their visit playing "football" there.   We all had so much fun and once again were reminded how much we miss having the older kids at home.

       There is no rest for the wicked so even with sickness our life is marching on.    This week is going to be super full.   Tomorrow we're taking my parents out for lunch and shopping in Ottawa.   (Those plans just came into effect a few minutes ago!)    On Thursday Keith and Daddy are going to look at tractor we are thinking of buying.    They'll have to hurry home as Keith is having high speed Internet installed later that afternoon.   (I'll be keeping my dial-up as I don't like change!)   Next Friday Jeni has a dental appointment in Topeka and the following Monday we'll be going back for surgery on her nose.   See what I mean about busy???

       Along with all the things that 'have' to be done, Keith and I are taking some time for ourselves.    I've been Needle Punching, Hooking and spending time on the deck while the little ones swim.   I've also been working in my flower gardens and they are slowly but surely coming together.   At our age it's time to slow down and we've been trying to do just that.   It's amazing how much better you feel about life when you take the time to enjoy your home.    So, on that note Girls I'll sign off and get back to work.   Until next time......  Summer Blessings, Sher

~~~The Best Mother's Day Ever~~~
Posted on 2009-May-11 at 09:04
        Yes, I know I just posted but your going to have to bare with me and put up with two entries today.   I just couldn't not tell you about the most wonderful Mother's Day of my life!
         It all started Friday when a gorgeous bouquet of flowers of was delivered from our oldest daughter and her sweetie.  (Thank you Kara!)    Later that evening, our son, Sam and his wife Renee showed up.   We spent the evening visiting with them and on Saturday morning Seth & Codi came with more flowers in hand.  (Thanks kids!)    By now I'm feeling like the luckiest woman alive.   Little did I know I was about to become even happier!
       Earlier in the week Sam had called and asked if we could eat at everyone's favorite Mexican restaurant in Iola.   Keith and I agreed that we would do this rather than me fix a big meal on Sunday.   When asked, the kids all agreed they wanted to eat lunch rather than supper so plans were made to be in Iola at noon.
       After everyone sat down and our drinks had been ordered Sam (Who was sitting next to me) asked what I wanted for Mother's Day.   I told him just having my kids home was enough for me.   He then said, "Well, would you rather have a boy or girl?"   Since we have just gotten Latte (the puppy) my first thought was he was wanting to get us another dog and instantly I said, "I don't want another...." then it hit me!   They were going to have a baby!!!!   Keith and I were laughing and crying at the same time.   I'm sure everyone in that restaurant thought we had lost our minds!!!!   You see girls, for medical reasons we weren't sure they would ever be able to have a baby so this was not only a miracle but truly a  special gift from God just as all babies are!  I swear we cried for a good half an hour we were so happy!!!!   Poor Jeni and Drew weren't sure what was going on (Jeni couldn't hear what Sam had asked me) but once they found out they too were excited....Jeni is already making plans to "baby-sit"! HA
     Our special little one is due on Christmas Eve.   Of course that means Mommy and Daddy won't be here to celebrate with us but ole Grandpa and Grandma are making plans of their own.   If he/she arrives during Christmas break {Remember, we still have little ones in school!} and the weather cooperates, we'll be making a trip to Neb..  Otherwise we'll be glued to the computer (Camcorders) so we can see our baby daily!    Can you tell this old grandma is one happy person??? HA
    After this good news the rest of our weekend passed in a daze.   We played board games, the boys helped Keith get the pool ready for summer (I don't think it's ever going to get warm enough to swim!), the kids all loaded up and took Latte walking in town, ect...  It was just a laid-back, wonderful, relaxing weekend!
     So, Mother's Day 2009 will be one of happy memories and now we'll be spending the next few months praying for a healthy baby and safe delivery for Mom and Dad.   Blessings to Your Family From Ours, Sher
We Can See the Sun!!!!!
Posted on 2009-May-4 at 02:01
     After weeks of rain and dark gloomy weather, this morning the sun is shining on Old Crow Farm!!!!    I can't tell you how good it looks or what a difference it makes in the way I feel.    Gone is the time of wanting to crawl back in bed or sit and do nothing for hours on end.   Now I feel so alive and so good about life!!!!   I guess it goes without saying, I'm one of those people who should never live where they have rain for weeks/months on end!
      Naturally the first thing I did this morning was to start on that mountain of laundry that has been piling up in front of my washer.    I knew I wouldn't have enough line space to get it all hung (I have six LONG lines but when you have a weeks worth of laundry it really adds up!) out and I was right.   I still have a load of darks but at least the majority of it is done.    It's wonderful to see the floor in there once again but with more rain in the forecast, I know it will soon quickly fill back up!
      Along with laundry, I've been working on a few projects.   I bought a small wooden piece over the weekend at a yard sale and today was the day I got it painted, sanded and stained.   I really like how it turned out and now I'm anxious to work on a few other "trash to treasure" pieces.   I know that's not going to happen today but maybe tomorrow if the sun comes out for part of the day I can start on them then.
      Keith has been working on the lawn ever time the rain lets up.   He got our front yard (The one inside the picket fence) all mowed up yesterday and I was surprised to see how many flowers have jumped their enclosure and and are now growing in the yard.    I've got to get out there and get them  transplanted back to the flower garden area simply because of the money....The very same flowers at our local greenhouse are now selling for $3.99 each!!!!   I've got hundreds of dollars worth out there!!!!
       Speaking of my flowers, I can't believe how mine are growing.   I know it's all this rain and cool weather but they are really spring up.....It seems as if they are growing an inch a day!   I have several that have started to bloom so I'm finally seeing some color among all the green leaves!
      Well girls, I want to add a note to my other blog and then it's time to start getting things lined up for supper...Gonna be lazy today and do a quick Mexican dish (Enchiladas South Texas Style) and a Cherry Cobbler and call it done.   I hope you too are enjoying the sun today and remember....Do something you love, you'll feel better about yourself and your life!   Hugs, Sher
Same Song, Different Verse...........
Posted on 2009-May-1 at 10:08
     Once again morning has came to the farm with dark skies and gloomy weather!    And you want to hear what has made it even worse?.....They have now taken the sun out for over the weekend and put in even more rain!!!!    I know come July we'll be praying for rain but right now we've had more than enough.    On a good note, my flowers look super and are growing by leaps and bounds.    How much long they'll look like this if the rain continues is anyone's guess!
     As dark as the day is, there has been one bright spot....Today is the day LemonPoppySeeds and The Primitive Gathering post their new items.    Now I have to be honest and admit I saw my friend Betty's items last week and girls if you love primitives, you have to check them out!
     The pictures just don't do them justice....They are so wonderful with their dark, old look.   Honestly makes you think of days gone by and simpler times.    Check them out for yourself and don't be surprised if you can't resist buying one of them!!!!!
    Earlier this week I decided to skip the Topeka Hook-In this weekend  so we could stay home and catch up on some much needed mowing.  (Yes, the grass is growing right along with my flowers!!)    Of course that's out now.   At first I gave some thought to going ahead and going but since Seth & Codi are coming home this weekend I think we'll just stay put and catch up on some visiting.    Naturally extra people means extra cooking.   I've got a roast in the crock-pot, with do mashed potatoes & gravy, cole slaw, corn and hot bread for supper.    And then I just can't send my kids home empty handed (Esp. with Finals looming!) so I've made Puppy Chow in and shortly I'll do some Oyster Snack Crackers.   If nothing else, we definitely eat in this house!
    Well Gals, it's time to clean up my kitchen and then I want to spend some time hooking on my new heart shaped rug.   I hope everyone has a good weekend and it's one without rain!   Spring Showers, Sher
Two Days of News
Posted on 2009-Apr-29 at 09:38
    For days we have had rain or dark skies.   This morning we were to see sunshine.    Like a child expecting a present I started planning my day yesterday.   First thing on my list was to tackle this mound of laundry.    Yes, I do have a dryer and could use it but instead I hang everything out.   I think I've only used my dyer once this whole winter!   Since I rise earlier than anyone else in this family (Not true...Latte now joins me in these early hours! HA) I had the washer going long before the sun came up.     And that's where the trouble has came in~~~The sun has never came up!!!!   And not only that but it's bitter cold out there!!!     Since I'm someone who lives on faith I decided those clothes were going on that line anyway.    For the last hour I've been hanging out and while the lines are full and blowing in the cold breeze there's still no sign of sunshine.   Hopefully all of that will change in a few hours as we have more rain moving back in tomorrow! GROAN
     I called Mom last night and once again my Dad is up to his old tricks.     Two weeks ago he met with the Heart Specialist and got a wonderful report.    When Dr. "D" made the appointment for my Dad, he honestly didn't think he would be alive to keep it.    Dr. "D" said Daddy is doing "very, very good" and while his heart shows signs of healing, it will never be good enough to allow him to have any type of surgery.    He did said if daddy continues to lay around and just do a little fishing we might have him for a few more years.   The minute Daddy heard that he thought it gave him the go-ahead to do anything he wanted!    Last week he took their windmill down so he could paint it.   Once he got it up it wasn't "right" so on one of the windiest days of the year, he got a ladder out and proceeded to climb to the top so he could fix it!!!!   Girls the blades of that windmill cut his hands up something horrible.   So, it was back to the doctor for him.    He saw our local doctor and Dr. "P" said, "First Fred you come to me when you fell down the basement stairs.   Next you came because you fell off the roof.  Then you have a heart attack and wait four days before coming.    Now you've came because you about cut your hands off from the blades of a windmill.   If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have any business!"   Remember, my Dad will be 84 years old in August, what is he thinking????  There's only one answer...    The Lord didn't make men any tougher than He made a farmer!   I swear he gives us all a run for our money and poor Mother is about to go nuts!
     It's now a day later.    As I was writing on this yesterday Keith and I decided we needed to take my Mom out for lunch.    We knew Daddy had gone fishing with one of his friends and since we never do anything "one-on-one" with Mom, we thought this would be the perfect time to go.   We took her to her favorite Chinese Restaurant and to be honest this is the last place we wanted to eat!   Keith and I can not figure out what there is about that place she likes.   The food isn't real Chinese, more American with Chinese influences.  ICK    Oh well, she loved it and that's all that counts.
    After our "wonderful" meal we all went to Wal-Mart.    We all went our separate ways and after I got everything I needed, I started walking around looking for Mom.   I'll bet Keith and  I went up and down those isles for half and hour and she was no where to be found.   I really wanted to page her but was afraid if she heard her name over the loud speaker she would think something had happened to Daddy.   Finally when Keith and I were both at wits end we looked up and there she was....She had checked out and was sitting on a bench in the front of the store visiting with people!    Mom, you and Daddy are going to be the death of me!!!!
    Just as predicted, the weather today has turned off dark and dreary.   It's only a matter of time until the rain moves in so I best high-tail it outside and get the plants in my greenhouse watered so I won't have to go out in the rain.   Oh, while the sun never did shine yesterday I was able to get all my laundry dry.   See, The Lord never lets me down!    I hope this finds everyone doing well and staying safe.   Until later.......Spring Blessings, Sher
Stormy Weather
Posted on 2009-Apr-26 at 01:03
Good Morning!
        It's been a wild, stormy night here on the plains.    While other areas of Kansas were hit a lot harder than we were, thankfully there wasn't any loss of life.   The skies are dark again this morning so I know we're in for another rough day today.    Actually, it looks as though the whole week could be bad.    I absolutely hate this time of year!   Makes me long for the cold days of winter when all we had to worry about was snow.
        Yesterday we made a trip to Emporia to take Seth is new car tags (It was sad because this will be the last time we'll be buying his tags.   In a few short months he'll be married and be doing all this on his own!) and to meet up with my friend Betty (From www.primitivebettys.blogspot.com).     As always, it was great talking to Betty, even if it was just for a few minutes.    And of course I came away inspired and full of neat ideas.   Now I won't say what she inspired me with but in a few days I'll be posting a link for you to check it out for yourself!   That gal is truly amazing!!!!
       While in Emporia we hit a few tag sales and I got a couple of neat things.    One thing I got was four little dessert sized plates with country scene on them.   I have no idea what I'll do with them since there are only four and I always feed a crew but I just couldn't pass them up.   At least not for fifty cents!   Tag sales are the only reason I enjoy summer...You never know what you'll find!
     Keith and I were looking over our schedule for the next month and have about decided we are going to meet ourselves coming and going.   While May will be a super busy month the month of June looks relative free.   Then in July we'll be busy once again with our annual Fourth of July picnic and then there's Seth and Codi's wedding.  Hopefully things will settle down in August once again.
    Well, it's getting near noon so I best bring this to a close and get in there and fix my crew some lunch.   I hope this finds everyone having a safe and storm free weekend.  Until later...Hugs, Sher   P.S. To those of you on my friendship blog, I've added another post.
Returning to What We Call Normal.........
Posted on 2009-Apr-22 at 10:33
    I want to start this entry off with a quick thank you to all who have left words of encouragement over Jeni.   She ended up missing all week of school but a trip to our local doctor has her up and running.    He said that she was full of infection (How that ER doctor missed that on Monday after being told she had been sick all the day before with the flu is beyond me!) and put her on ten days of antibiotics.   At first I didn't think they were working (She was still sick at her stomach and throwing-up...Which I finally figured out was from the antibiotics!) but after a few days she started to feel like her old self.    He also gave us a tip on what to try for the nose bleeds and so far it seems to be working.   Maybe she'll be "nose bleed free" until we see the specialist!   Lord I hope so!
    Finally get her back on her feet and it's time to take care of Drew.   Yesterday he made his six month trip to the dentist in Lawrence and I'm happy to report he not only was cavity free but he also got his spacers taken off.   Dr. J said by this time next year he'll be starting his braces.   His teeth have straightened up a lot on their own and Dr. J said if they continue we might be able to do his braces all at once instead of two different times!    Pray on that one girls as we have Jeni going into them too so we're really going to be shelling out a lot of money!!!!
    With both kids back in school, I've started tearing into our front flower gardens.   I knew these were going to be bad (They are so darn big!) and I'm sorry to say I wasn't mistaken!  I spent one afternoon crawling around on my hands and knees and I'm paying for it now....My poor ole legs have about killed me they are aching so bad!    As much as they hurt I can't let up or I'm going to be right back in the same mess I was last year and the grass will over-take them once again.   We bought another eight bags of mulch yesterday and this afternoon I'll be back out there pulling and mulching my day away.
      I had hoped to buy some annuals yesterday but a quick look at those at Wal-Mart made me decide to wait.   I guess the stores got everything in to early this year and most of them look like they are half dead. (Froze???)  I noticed that I have lost a lot of my Hollyhocks and I know it's because of the cold snap we had earlier so I'm sure it's the same with the stores flowers.    I do have lots of plants that have re-seeded so I'll be able to take some of those and fill in some of our empty spots.    I also dug up two rose bushes and I've said it before and I'm saying it again...No more roses for this ole gal!!!  I do not have what it takes to raise them.   I do need to buy some bigger plants to fill in those holes.
     I moved some of my house plants out around our water garden and I can tell right now this too is going to be a challenge for me this year.~~~~Latte is 98% house-broke (She actually hasn't had an "accident" since the first week we got her!) and it's our fenced in back yard where she does her "business".    Of course she's fascinated over the fish in the pond and she doesn't care what she tromps on to get to the edge to watch them!   Heaven help my flowers!    Needless to say life is never boring around this house!!!!
    Well, the sun is out so I best get my tail in there and get our Strawberry Pie made for dessert and then it's garden time for me.    I pray your each having gorgeous weather and once again, THANK YOU for thinking of our Jeni.   Hugs, Sher
Wore Out!
Posted on 2009-Apr-15 at 10:00
       The month of April is quickly slipping by and I for one will be glad to see it end....Maybe then things will start returning to normal.   Although at this point in my life I'm not even sure what "normal" is!
       It started off with Easter weekend.    On Saturday afternoon my parents and niece came over so the  folks could see Latte....My mother is in love with this dog and it's only because of her that I allowed Keith and the kids to get her.   But, that's a whole other story.     Because Seth & Codi need to see her grandparents we decided to have our Easter dinner on Saturday night.   I baked a ham with all the trimmings and we had a nice time visiting while eating and then Codi helped the kids dye eggs.    The next morning Jeni got up bright and early to see what the Easter Bunny brought.  (No candy in this house except for the chocolate eggs the bunny hides.   Instead they get toys.)   One of the things she got was a new DVD and since it was so early I figured she'd run right back to her bedroom and start to watch it.   Instead she just laid down on the sofa.   Within minutes she was complaining of a headache and said she felt dizzy and cold.    Suddenly she started running a high fever.    So, it was back to bed for her.
       Monday the kids didn't have school and Jeni surprised me by getting up early.   She had no more than sat down in the living room when the nose bleed started.   Jeni has had nose bleeds for years and each time we see a doctor they act like I'm nuts.    They just say that some children have more nose bleeds than others and one doctor even told us because she's a redhead they'll probably get worse as she gets older!   Lord have Mercy!!!!    Well, that morning it was a bad one.   After an hour of heavy bleeding (I'm not kidding...If they ever check this house for a murder I'll be found quilty just by the blood alone....We had blood EVERYWHERE!!!)  I knew it was beyond my control and told Keith we had to get her to the ER!    By the time we got up there she was covered in blood from her forehead clear down her chest.   The receptionist took one look at her and asked if she had been in a car wreck and rushed her right back into a room.
     Once again the ER doctor didn't seem the least bit concerned.    He said she didn't lose as much blood as I thought she had (He didn't see the blood clots in the waste basket at home or all the rags we had went through either!) and as a parent I was probably just upset.    As I left there I ran into my sister and also our family doctor.   We have never seen our family doctor with one of these nose bleeds, however Keith had told him earlier and he said we need to have her checked by a specialist.    When he found the ER doctor hadn't done anything for her, he told me to call on my own!   Which I have done.   In the meantime, we've had FOUR more!!!    Thankfully none of them were as bad though as the one on Monday.
     As a parent maybe I am a little hysterical but I have good reason to be.....When my parents bought their farm in Colony years ago we had a little playmate from "back home" (Which is now the area where I live) come and visit.   It was during this visit Becky got a horrid nose bleed that Mom couldn't get stopped.   She called her Mom to come get her (A good 35 minute drive) and I'll never forget standing there watching Becky and my Mom.   This was the beginning of the end for Becky.   Two months later she died from cancer.  (She was a sixth grader)     So, naturally I associate nose bleeds as something being terribly wrong.   My poor mother does too.   When I told her about Jeni having yet another one she said, "Sherry, you have got to do something.   Remember Becky!"
     So, my days have been anything but normal.   Between the nose bleeds and the flu I'm about at my wits end.     Hopefully the month of May will be better and I'll have better things to write about.   Spring Blessings, Sher
A Windy Day!
Posted on 2009-Apr-5 at 06:53
     Once again I'm running twenty steps behind everyone else!     For once I have a super excuse....Last weekend we loaded the kids up and headed out in weather so bad no one even should have been on the road to pick up the newest addition to our family.   Yes, I let Keith and the kids (Mostly my Mother!!!) talk me into adopting a new bundle of joy.    Meet Latte, our little Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
       Me, who has never been a dog person and swore I would never have a dog in the house has suddenly been thrust into the roll!   I'm going to tell you right now girls, I have had eight young'uns and they were NEVER the work a dog is!    I honestly would rather have a baby at my age than to have a dog!   Heck, at least with a baby you can lay it down and it stays there for a few minutes!!!!!   With Latte I never know where she'll go.  (Or what she'll be doing!! HA)  And, to add insult to injury, ME, who swore they would never have  a dog in the car is suddenly lugging Latte everywhere.....Just ask Betty, she rode along to the Topeka Hook-In yesterday!    So girls, never say never or you just might have to eat your words!!!!
      Along with potty-training a puppy I've been busy working on a new rug hooking project.   Yes, I know I swore I wouldn't start anything until I have the last two rugs/mats whipped stitched (I do have one started!!) but since the little mustard chair on the porch needs something.~~~~ This little mat is being made out of left over "worms" (Wool strips) so while the colors aren't something I would have chosen  they were free so they'll be "perfect"!  (Plus I know all the farm cats will be laying on it so I'm sure it will soon have that primitive old look I love! HA)
      I wish all of you could have been at the Hook-In yesterday.   Once again I came home inspired!    I'm not kidding, no matter how many times I go I'm always amazed at the different rugs being hooked.   Yesterday there was a great display of Spring rugs...Those that were made with pastel colors!    Like Carol said, "It's hard to get out of your comfort zone" but I have to admit those pastel colors were really calling my name!   So much so that I went online this afternoon and looked for a Spring-like pattern!   No luck yet but I'll keep looking!
     Judy had tons of new wool yesterday and I got two pieces of the yummiest looking plaid.   These were colors I normally wouldn't have bought (oranges, rust, dark reds, purple, browns, ect..) but I just had to have them.   Of course now my mind is racing as what to use them in...Maybe pumpkins???  Or pants on a little male rabbit???   And speaking of wool, Robin bought some gorgeous molted hand-dyed green wool to use in the chair covers she's making.  (Talk about ambitious!!!! FOUR chair covers???)   Our talented Betty had designed her latest rug  and she was picking out some yummy wool's to use in it.
    Speaking of Betty....Those who are cross stitchers or Needle Punchers, do yourself a favor and check out her two newest patterns...  http://primitivebettys.blogspot.com/     I honestly don't know which one I liked the best...The sheep or the little Pinkeep and Scissors FOB!   Both will be started in this house later on this week!!!!   Once again, THANKS Betty!!!
    When we got home from Topeka yesterday not only did we have Seth & Codi here but also one of Seth's old friends from high school, Bryant.    It was like old times hearing those boys trade stories and talk of their future.   Brought back a lot of good memories for this ole Mom & Dad!   Both boys jumped right in and helped Keith cut down the two trees we had lost out front last Fall so while they were all working I made everyone a meal of Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes & cream gravy, baked beans and tossed salad.   The perfect end to a perfect day!
     Well girls, it sounds as if this old house is going to blow away (I don't think I've ever seen the wind blow longer or harder!) so I'd best get my kids bathed and ready for bed since it's probably going to be a long night.   I hope this finds everyone well and enjoying warmer temperatures than we are!    Blessings, Sher
Making More Memories
Posted on 2009-Mar-27 at 09:52
    The past two days have been ones filled with fun and pain.   Okay, the pain was from a Dentist visit yesterday (Thankfully no cavities!) but the fun part has came with more time being spent with my parents.
     For weeks we have talked about taking them to the Monkey Butt Bar for one of their super deluxe hamburgers (At least that's why my parents call them!).    One time we even made it as far as Iola when we got a call from the school that Jeni had the vomiting flu so back home we went.  (With Keith drooling because he'd missed that hamburger!)    Next Keith got called out of town on business and then we had the little ones home for ten days on Spring Break.    This week other than my dental appointment the week was free so we decided Wednesday was the day we were eating that hamburger.
     We arrived at the folks bright and early to find they were dressed and waiting at the kitchen table.   Since I wanted to check out the Moran locker we decided to leave then.   At trip to the locker yielded both Mother and I tons of fresh beef.  (I always carry a freezer bag so I'm ready for frozen foods.)
      After the locker we headed to Wal-Mart as I needed a few things.   I really worried about Daddy walking around (He's starting to have trouble with his legs.   Mom thinks it's because he's not using them but I'm not so sure.) but he never argued when Keith got him one of those electric carts.    Actually, he enjoyed it a little to much....He wanted to run into Mom every time she turned her back! HA
     From Wal-Mart we headed to the bar.    While I haven't been in a bar in over thirty years (We used to have one in the little town I lived in that served semi decent food!) nothing has changed much.    Still a little to smoky for my taste but not as bad as some I've been in.    When we sat down Keith decided he was going to have the double cheese burger and Daddy went nuts....Said he thought we had came for the Monkey burgers so Keith quickly changed his order! HA    Keith and I really figured the folks had exaggerated this "big burger" but we quickly found out they hadn't!   Not only have we never seen a bigger burger but Keith who has ate all over the world said he's never tasted a better one!   We all agreed we should have ordered just one serving of French Fries to share because there we so many no one could eat them all.    Daddy enjoyed himself so much and it was really obvious when he made Keith take his cell phone and take a picture of Mom so he could show all his friends, "He got Dorothy in a bar"! HA
     By the time we got back to their farm we had laughed ourselves silly and we are already talking about where we'd go next....Think it's going to be Ottawa to the Sirloin Stockade!  (Dad's very favorite place to eat!)
     Yesterday was my dentist appointment and since I found a few things for the folks we thought we would stop by there on the way home.    Well, we ended up being there the whole afternoon!!!!   Weeks ago the folks had bought one of those boxes to put on their television that will allow them to get local channels from their antenna.  (Daddy wouldn't hear of us buying them a new television since, "There's nothing wrong with the one we have, it works just fine"...His words!)   He wouldn't let anyone touch those boxes but suddenly yesterday afternoon he brought them out and asked Keith if he could hook them up.   Keith had no idea what he was doing but within a couple of hours he had them both up and running.   The folks can now get channel 13 so Daddy is a happy camper.
     Once we got them working Mom decided we need to run to the neighbors to look at the puppies they had for sale.   (She's wanting Keith to get one for our little ones and of course he's all for the idea!)    So we drove miles on country roads I hadn't been on for forty years.  The only thing that hadn't changed was the MILES of flat, wonderful farm land.   Keith said he had no idea land like that existed and was completely in awe.   Made me so proud to be a farmers daughter and to live in this great state.
    Arriving at the farm, mother and I were in for another shock...Daddy has no idea how our three door pick-up  truck works so he hops out, slams the door and there Mother and I were, locked in the truck.   Of course Keith isn't paying the least bit of attention to us so while Dad and him are playing with the puppies, Mom and I are stuck in the truck.   Keith thought that was super funny!!!  (Next time I'll stick Dad and him the back and we'll see how funny it is!!)      I'm the first to admit those puppies are precious!   If it wasn't for the fact I'D be the one having to potty train it I would have wrote the check.    I know Keith isn't going to let up on me until I give in and get the kids one so don't be surprised if that's not my next entry! HA
     When we left the folks I told Mom that I might as well move back in I'm there so often! HA...And of course I've already called her this morning to make sure they are still getting channel 13 and they are doing okay.
      Well girls, we have a big snow storm coming to Kansas so it's going to be a good day to do some baking.   On that note I'm out of here.   Have a great day and keep thinking SPRING!!!!   Country Blessings, Sher
Getting Ready For Spring!
    It's been weeks now since I've had the time to post.    Spring is starting to pop here in Kansas and once again we are super busy doing all the things that go with it.    Spring Break is over for our little ones and it's now time to get back into the routine of  school.   Years ago I had a friend who was just sick each time it was time for her son to go back to school after a break and for the life of me I couldn't understand it.    This morning I knew exactly how she felt.    After having the children home these past ten days, it was so sad to see them climb on that old bus and leave us this morning.  Yes Shelia, I have came full circle and know how you felt those many years ago.
    With Spring comes summer flowers.   Last week Keith and I worked in the three flower/herb beds in the fenced in area around our greenhouse.   I decided I would never get my tiny herb garden back in shape so the only solution was to rip it all out and start again.   I hated tearing up plants I've had for years but I also hated how it looked.    For days Keith and I pulled weeds and worked the land.    At long last they are cleared and ready for planting.   So, as soon as it gets warmer we'll be buying new herbs and getting them back in the neat beds they once were!
    Even though the back beds are looking super, the two here in front are a different story.    I purposely put them off until last because they are going to be so darn hard to do.    Not only will I be weeding out a bunch of grass and weeds but I'll be working around established plants that I want to save.   I know it's going to be slow going but in the course of the next few months I hope to have them done and ready for some new flowers.
    Of course you can't have nice flower beds without freshing up some of the art objects that go in them, right?    With that in mind I set about painting up some old chairs that we have turned into planters.    Jeni was my right-hand man here.   She loved digging through my cans of paint and came up with a funky blue-green for one of my favorite little chairs.
     Once she put the brush down I picked it up.    For years I have had this old weathered chair in my garden.   Each year Keith threatens to pitch it, each year I beg him to put it back together "one more time".   This year after he once again screwed the legs back on I decided the time had came to paint it.  (Okay, I confess...I was hoping paint might not only make it last another year but might help hold it together! HA)   Earlier in the week I had purchased some mustard colored exterior paint.   In looking the chair over I decided it might be better to "dry brush" it rather than painting it like we did the other chair.   I was really pleased with the results too.   While not the 'weathered look' I love, by just dry-brushing the paint on, I felt I retained some of it's rustic charm.
     I also decided it was time to move it from the harsh elements of the outdoors to the front porch in hopes of it lasting a few more years.     Sitting in it's new home made me decide maybe the time has came to retire it from a chair that held flowers to a chair that is "just for looks".    That hole in the seat could pose problems but not for this ole gal!   To me, it's just the perfect spot for a little hooked mat.    So, later on this week I'll drag out one of my three boxes of left over "worms" and start a primitive mat.   I know the farm cats will ruin it by the end of summer but since it will be made of left-overs it's not as though I'll have a lot of money in it.    Isn't it amazing that something as simple as painting an old chair for Spring can bring out the creative juices?????
    While there are more things to tell, with Spring in the air so is the threat of strong storms.   And since those storms are  in our forecast for today and tonight I best get off here and start "batting down the hatches" so we don't blow away.   Hopefully within the next few days I'll be able to find the time to post more pictures.   Until then, stay safe and think warm thoughts.  Spring Blessings, Sher
