Homesteading: A Woman's Journey | |
What a weekThe past few days have been busy and alot of fun. On Monday night, I heard my dachshund, Chantico, barking alot out on the front porch. I went out to see what was wrong. Well, there was something moving around in the dry brush. I went back into the house and got the flashlight to check it out. We have all types of critters around here. Armadillos, possum, lynx, coyotes, wolves, wild boars, deer, wild turkeys, numerous types of snakes, and a black panther that has been killing neighbors' small livestock and cats. Well, I went outside with the flashlight and couldn't see what was making the noise. I walked closer to the source of the noise and there it was. Slowly moving through the dry brush, low to the ground was the critter hunting for it's next meal.........a large armadillo! When I shined the light on it, the armadillo dug into the ground and hunkered down as if it though that it was hiding form me. It was cute. I still don't like them in my garden, but it was really cute watching it trying to "hide" in plain sight! In the late evening and early mornings, it has been getting cold. I have been lighting the wood stoves for heat. It feels so nice having the stoves burning. I love the sound of the wood crackling in the stove and the warmth the stoves provide. The cooler nights has made it nice for my crocheting. I didn't work on much of it because the temperatures were too warm to have the projects in my lap while working on them. Now, I am getting much more done. I love crocheting. It helps with my arthritis so much in keeping my hands from stiffening. As soon as I am done with the shawl I am making, I will start on Christmas projects. Abbie is still teething. Some days she hardly sleeps, even at night. Others, she sleeps alot. I can't wait for her to be done teething for awhile so she can rest the way she should. I give her the Baby Ora-gel to help with the teething pain. It seems to help alot. Last night I had a wonderful surprise. My Beloved called to tell me that he was on his way home. He had a early morning delivery in Oklahoma City, but was going to be able to come home for the evening. He was home in time for dinner, so we were able to do that as a family. We were up at 2am to get him off to make his delivery. He left at 4am. It was a short night, but it was so nice having him home. Well, Abbie is sleeping good right now, so I am going back to the crocheting for awhile. I can't wait to get this shawl finished. It is a gift and I am anxious to give it to the gal.
