Homesteading: A Woman's Journey

On the mend

In the middle of the night last night, my precious Abigail'a fever finally broke.  Praise God!  I was really worried.  I have seen kids go through the symptoms of reactions to the innoculations before, but never this severe.

Abigail is one of the few (about 1 on every 50 kids) who has the more severe reactions.  They are still considered "normal", but most kids don't have as many or as intense symptoms as what she gets.

This time around, her fever spiked at 101.2* and stayed there for nearly 36 hours before her temperature began to go down.  She also had alot of vomiting and diarrhea which worried me.  I know how to treat the fever (Infant Tylenol drops and alot of sponge baths) but I worried about her becoming dehydrated.  How do you help an infant stay hydrated when they can't hold anything down?

But, as I said, the fever broke.  She was finally able to hold down a bottle of formula tonight.  The first time in 2 days!  I even had to give her droppers of Pedialyte using a medicine dropper at times to get alittle into her to help prevent dehydration.  She also tried drinking from a cup.  We tried everything we could to get something to stay in her belly long enough to do her some good.  Thank the Lord that she is now able to hold down her formula and has no fever.  She is still very achy and cries easily.  When she is awake, she is wanting held constantly.  But I see definate improvement.

Today, my beloved's Grandparents and Aunt & Uncle came by in the morning for a visit.  What a nice time we had.  We don't get to see each other as often as we would like, so this was a good visit.  I was able to call Joe so he could talk with his Grandma while they were here.

Tonight, since Abigail is sleeping, I am hoping to get a few things done.  I want to be able to take it easier on Thursday & Friday than I normally do.  I always try to have everything done before my beloved gets home, which usually means that I over do it on those days.  This time though, I have the house nearly ready for his return earlier than I usually have it.  I am excited about this weekend.  Since Monday is a holiday (Labor Day here in the USA), Joe will have Monday off.  This will give us 3 days together.  What a blessing!!!

My son had a similiar reaction to some of the vaccinations. The last time he needed one, they gave him a different formula. I think it wasn't the combo one, that was the one he had the reaction to. Anyway, he didn't have any problems that time. You might want to check into it though and just see if they have it available. Glad to hear that she is better now.
