Homesteading: A Woman's Journey

Blessings

What a blessing this week has been.  There has been so many "little things" going on that are truly blessings in my life.

The first is the wonderful blessing on technology.  My beloved, as I have mentioned before, works in a career where he is gone from Monday - Friday, sometimes not getting home until Saturday.  This week, before going out in the semi, he activated a Pocketmail composer (pocketmail.com) which allows us to have email contact without his having to use a computer.  This has been wonderful!!!!  We don't have a cell phone so through the pocketmail, for the first time since he started this new job, we are able to be in daily contact.  Each day, we have been sending emails to each other, keeping in close contact.  Joe first got the pocketmail years ago.  You type up your emails, then call a toll free number and hold the device up to the phone. Through the phone, it is able to send and receive emails.

Tonight, I am sewing up head coverings.  I am making a snood pattern that I found free online.  I have also altered the size to make the snood longer in the back to mimic the scarves that I also enjoy wearing.  It is such an easy pattern that I am going to alter it again to make an infant sized snood for Abigail.  She is growing so much that I may make hers from a stretchy knit fabric so that it will fit her longer.

Another blessing that I have found this week is through a friendship that I am building with a lady I know from a scrapbooking group we are both on.  She lives about 2 hours away from me, but we are planning to get together as soon as we are able to.  She is also a good Christian woman and I am realizing through our emails just how much we have in common.

Abbie is doing great.  She giggles now.  She is also trying to roll over more often, sometimes managing to do it, other times getting frustrated.  Joe notices her growth and development alot now when he is home.  She is also alot more vocal, cooing and making other noises alot louder and for longer time periods than before.

We are so blessed to have such a healthy baby.  She is a "late in life" baby for me.  I had her just before my 43rd birthday.  We were given all the statistics about Downs Syndrome and other cellular problems that she could be born with.  We put of faith in God though and knew that however she came to us, it was God's will.  We've thought about having another one, but with my health issues, it wouldn't be a good idea.  We are at peace with that decision.  If it is meant that we have another baby, it will be in God's hands also.

Well, tonight I am taking advantage of the cooler temperatures and going to sew and relax.  It feels so good to have the house completely cleaned and not "have" to do any major cleaning for the rest of the week.  I actually was able to get all but one room organized.  The last room to be done will require Joe's assistance do to the items being things he needs to sort through (electronics and such).  I feel so relaxed now that I have things done.  That in itself is another blessing in my life.

We have a late in life baby too. Jonathan was born when I was 41 and my husband was 42. I went to a Christian doctor who knew I didn't want any of the testing done that is common for older mothers. He was born 13 weeks early, but is doing very well. He has mild cerebral palsy that most people can't detect and some asthma from being born with pneumonia. Our daughter, Maria is 18, so I have always been glad for an extra pair of hands. She is more like a mother to him than a sister, so when she likely goes to school in a year, she will have to keep in close contact with little brother. It is always a joy to read about your family...........Denise (prairiemom)
