Homesteading: A Woman's Journey

"Cleaning House"

What a wonderful and exhausting day.  While Joe is gone this week, I am making alot of changes.  With his approval of course!    Our home has very small rooms.  We have an old sleeper sofa and a huge solid wood coffee table that we don't have room for any longer.  It is amazing how much space a baby's things require!  We ended up offering the sofa and coffee table on Freecycle and it is being picked up tomorrow or the next day by someone who really needed it.

Today, I spent the entire day cleaning the house from one end to the other.  I had to get a very early start due to the heat.  We only have an A/C unit in our baby's bedroom, so even with a fan, the rest of the house gets very hot.  I had to take the large box fan into her room also because the A/C wasn't keeping her cool enough.  That meant I only had the open windows and a couple of window fans to cool the rest of the house.  I worked on the rooms, starting in the front and going towards the back rooms.  As the day heated up, I had to start taking breaks and cool off in Abigail's room.  I took the breaks whenever she was awake so that I could play with her and such.  Tonight, I am really tired.  I am lucky though that my Fibromyalgia hasn't flared up really bad.  The good part is that now that I got all the work done, I can take it alot easier the rest of the week if necessary.

Now, I only have to sort through stuff that I have yet to finish organizing.  This weekend, when my beloved is home, he is going to be putting a large wooden table in a corner of our bedroom to give me a place to sew.  Right now, I use the dining table, which I have to clean off before he gets home so we can use it for meals.  During the week, I just move the sewing things aside.

Tomorrow, I am going to start some more sewing projects.  I am making myself another covering.  I found a pretty Jewish style snood pattern online that once it is put on and tied, it looks very much like the "Jerusalem Twist" style of wearing my scarves.  I found the pattern at:  http://www.sewmodestclothing.com/snood.shtm
My beloved found a beautiful light blue linen fabric that is lightweight and drapes very nicely.  He had me buy enough to make a couple of coverings with it.  I am making 1 scarf and the snood from the fabric.  I will still have alot of the fabric left over.  Enough to maybe make a little dress or jumper for Abigail to wear at church.  I am making her some white bleached muslin bloomers also.  I have scraps of gathered lace that I am going to put around the bottom of the ruffle on the legs.  I am also going to put lace at the hem of a denim dress and denim jumper that I found at a thrift store.  They are in great condition, I just think that the lace will dress them up abit more.

I gave my beloved the little scrapbook that I made for him to have in the truck while he is away from home.  He loved it!  It was filled with pictures of Abigail and him.  I wrote the captions as though Abigail was talking.  He got abit emotional as he read through it.  As the time goes by, I will add more pages to the album.  Right now, it has 20 pages (10 pages front and back) in it.

Well. it is getting late and I will need to be up very early in the morning.  To all those in the areas with the heatwave, take care and stay hydrated!  I know from past experience that dehydration in the summer an make you quite ill.

God Bless,
Paula
