Homesteading: A Woman's Journey

This past week.....

We have been so blessed this past week.  Our home has only a small window air conditioner located in our baby's room.  Nearly the entire week, we have been going through a heatwave with temperatures over 100*.  The highest temp being nearly 110* during the week.  I spent the majority of the week in our daughter's room with her, only coming out to get something to eat, drink or get her a bottle during the day when the heat was at it's worst.  I have found that the scarf I wear as a cover is a blessing in the heat.  I would wet it down with cool water before putting it on and would be kept cool enough to tolerate the heat without getting sick.  Last summer, I went had to go to the hospital 3 times due to heat and dehydration problems.  Only one day this week, did it get hot enough in the house that I had to take Abigail to a family member's home to be out of the heat.  Though her room wasn't really cool, I had a large fan in front of the A/C unit with the breeze directed on Abigail's playpen where she was sleeping.  It kept her cool and she did great through the heatwave.

Today was supposed to be the hottest day of the week, but we have been blessed with cooler temps and a wonderful breeze blowing, keeping the house cooler than it has been in over a week.

My sewing projects and everything that wasn't absolutely essential was put on hold until today. I am working on Abigail's clothes now that the house isn't so hot.  I can't wait until the night is cool enough that I can do some baking.  I used to have a few recipes for making cookies using a waffle iron to bake them, but lost the recipes.  They were great for making when days were too hot to use the oven.  If I locate the recipes again, I will post them here.

My beloved gets home tonight.  I can't wait to see him again.  He called me earlier this afternoon to let me know that he was in Joplin, MO.  I find myself looking out the window fairly often, watching for him.  The house just doesn't feel as much like a home without my beloved here with us.  It always feels like a vital part is missing.  I always look forward to the weekends when my beloved is home.  Spending time together as a family, having prayers together.  There are all the typical reasons why I would miss him being here, but there is another side of it that I miss alot.  My beloved is such a spiritual man.  I miss talking to him about scriptures I have read during the week, having prayers together at mealtimes.  He always offers a prayer even when we are eating out at a restaurant.  He isn't embarrassed or uneasy about it.  He also never leaves to go back on the road without asking for the Lord's blessing of protection on the family - both Abigail and I here at home and himself while he is gone.  I miss watching him interact with our blessing from above, Abigail.  He puts on the music and slow dances with her.  She loves it.  She grins and has started to laugh, one of her new developments.

It is so fun to watch Abigail's growth through my beloved's eyes.  With him being gone so much, he notices every little change in her.  I love seeing his excitement to her development.  This past week, she grew alittle taller.  My in-laws noticed it right away.  She is also alot more vocal and has begun laughing more.  I can hardly wait for her to start trying to crawl.  She is starting to show signs of getting ready to start teething.  This is such an exciting time.....watching all the growth she is making.

God has truly blessed us with Abigail.  What a wonderful reminder of the Lord's goodness, having a precious child to raise.  I thank the Lord each day for the blessings he has given so graciously.

May the Lord be with you and your families.

You indeed have a blessed life. It is so nice to hear you talk about your husband thay way. You are very lucky to have such a man. I hope the heat subsides for you soon. I live in Lousisana, so I know how you feel.
